I engage in a activity that will make me happy. It could be taking a long walk, listening to an audio book, playing with my dogs, or simply addressing the reason why I am feeling low or depressed...

Take a risk! Take a step in a positive direction related to whatever is making you feel low or depressed, even if the outcome might not be good. It'll make you feel better knowing that you did something about the situation, and things will start to turn around.

I think about all the people in the world who don't have the wonderful things I have. Such as my 4 beautiful children, my health, my ability to work, my parents are still alive, ect. I thank God for these things, then I ask myself what can I do to make the special people in my life know that I am grateful to have them around. And sometimes, when I am in a bad mood, I take a nap. I usually wake up refreshed and revived. But not too long of a nap, if I wake up and get way behind on my schedule, it just makes me feel like a bad mom... lol. Remember that we only live one life, make it a good one!

In general, I dislike self-help books. But there was one piece advice that I read once that I thought was very good (if not very broad):
There's no "key" to happiness of course. But some things go a long way toward that goal. Here are three:
1) a satisfying career or job
2) a fulfilling relationship (not necessarily with a lover or spouse)
3) something to look forward to
Seek out these things. If you already have them, reflect on them and be grateful.

I work in a psychiatric hospital and quite often on a ward round I will put childrens programmes or Disney films on to the telly, the change in patients is incredible, so put on a Disney ( a sad one first to make you cry because it will lessen the sadness you are feeling) Bambi or beauty and the beast. Then watch a nice happy family one, I promise you this does work.

My family, friends, music. I usually keep myself busy, that way I won't even think about it or either I think about the positive things in my life, the things and people that make me happy, and I always remind myself that things will get better. Negative thoughts make things worse. The struggles in life only make us stronger, and besides, whether you think so or not, There's alot of other people in this world who are worse off than you! :) That's what I always think about when I'm feeling depressed.....

My daughter can tell when I am blue...she always finds a way to cheer me up- even if it is just knowing to let me be alone till I get over it- Knowing that no matter how bad you think it is it can always be alot worse, makes me see that I have alot to be thankful for...then I laugh in the face of depression and it leaves.

Get around people that are happy and you trust and are able to talk with. Don't hold it in you will be even more depressed.
