I used henna for many years and although it was very effective, it is VERY messy and I found it very difficult to completely remove the henna from my hair and scalp when it was dried.

Henna can be used for body coloring and for hair coloring.
I used henna on my hair. (Better statement would be - what didn't I use on my hair... Just about everything under the sun...) If you don't want color, but just the health benefits, rinse it off before the color sets in. Yeah, it's good.
Grey hair is hard to color with henna, nearly impossible in some cases, my mom says.
Yeah, if you want to color your hair red, sure why not.
However, keep in mind that henna interferes with perm. You might end up with funny color.
As to the question why people ever use something else that is not natural - well, the color shades that you can achieve with henna are rather limited. Also, you can't go lighter than your natural shade with henna alone. Afer you use henna, you can't use anything else until the hair is completely henna free. Or you might end up with greenish ugly color.

No no and more no! it builds up on the hair and can cause it to break off. plus if you have it on your hair and you use regular hair color, bleach, or perm, your hair will dissolve and fall off. it is called a metallic dye and it cannot be mixed with traditional hair chemicals. it's a very bad idea to use this on your hair.
