Drink lots of water, eat bananas for potassium which will stop the cramping and drink milk because the calcium will ease the muscle pain from the cramping. If the cramp stays for lets say more than 30 minutes it could be a thrombi which blocks blood flow and can dislodge and end up in your lungs. This is fatal. So if it does not go away go to a doctor.

If the cramp comes on without doing anything (like in the middle of the night) you might have restless legs or low potassium. If you are getting cramps from running or working out then rub the area or use an ice pack till it feels better. Try eating some bananas to add some potassium and please dint take a salt tablet as someone else recommended.

If they happen for no reason, like out of the blue, then go see your doctor to make sure your blood levels are good. He may recommend a diet change if you are low on sodium or potassium or whatever. If you work out and your muscles are sore, then drink more water (as muscle cramps can be a sign of dehydration) and apply a heating pad to the area and gently rub.

Breathe. If it's a leg cramp I usually squeeze the $hit out of where it hurts. If it's belly, just breathe.

Keep it raised until it relaxes itself- then massage it GENTLY. Take B-complex and potassium vitamins to lessen the chance of cramps in the future.

Good luck!

First of all do not rub or massage it. Try standing up and walking on it until the cramp eases up.
