from what i have read, the universe started expanding when it was created and has never stopped since
i do think it was caused by God, but thats just my opinion and you are free to think whatever

Nope, that is a thing that causes the region of size 3 x 10^-26 m to expand to the size 9 x 10^17m.

There is a Hadith Qudsi (Sacred Hadith) in which the prophet Muhammad (saw) said that Allah said before the creation of the universes He was a "hidden treasure that wanted to be known" so he created all of creation out of that love and desire to be in communion with the creation, including you and me.
What happened in the physical world is just detail. Feel how expansive your heart is when you are deeply in love, that's what makes the universe expand!
