All the way around I believe that Sugar Ray Robinson had the greatest pure boxing skills of any fighter ever! He had good power, great hand speed, great footwork and a tremendous will to win. Marvin Hagler was a very polished Philly fighter and fought like old school fighters. He had an iron jaw and tremendous boxing skills and threw devastating punches. I rank Robinson at #1 with Hagler and Monzon a tie at # 2 so I believe this would be a great fight. I would say vintage Robinson would be about 1951 and vintage Hagler about 1984. Hagler would be the aggressor early on but Robinson would answer with fast combinations. About the 8th round Robinson would start controlling the fight with his fast jabs and dazzling footwork. Hagler would come on strong winning some late rounds but Robinson would win the last two rounds for a split decision victory.

I'm gonna rock the boat here by saying Hagler would KO Robinson and pretty easily. I agree that Sugar Ray is one of the best ever but i rate Hagler as THE best ever and i just think the match up would be all wrong for Robinson he couldn't put Lamotta away in all the battles they had so he definitely couldn't stop Hagler who probably had the best chin boxing has ever seen. So therefore it would just be about Hagler being able to catch Sugar Ray and what i would say is that Sugar Ray got caught by lesser fighters than Marvelous Marvin Hagler.

Wow what a fight! They do say Sugar Ray was at his true peak at 147 but he was a great 160 lbr as well. Hagler was a great middleweight champion who combined excellent boxing skills, great punching power, and a relentless will into a truly ferocious fighting machine. Robinson, with his quickness, wins by unanimous dec but Hagler would definitely make it an extremely competitive fight.
