Yes the police have been loaded with more and more paperwork and have their hands tied with so much politcal red tape that their jobs are made so much more difficult and frustrating. They should be given the powers to fine and deal with these trouble causers immediately without having to wait up to a year for them to go to court and then have to sit there and either see the case cancelled for some reason or if not the offenders usually get let off with a slap on the wrist or community service. The yobs come out of court laughing at the justice system and the police are left shaking their heads in frustration and disgust. The general public then blame the police for doing nothing. Sorting these yobs out on the spot would speed things up and bring back a tiny bit of order to our streets. It would be a start anyway.

Yes!! Bloody scum bags, chavs and troublemakers. They banned chavs from Bluewater shopping centre (UK for any Americans) because of this 'slap happy' craze amongst other things.
ASBO's have become a fashion accessory, the police are USELESS! They haven't got the backbone to deal with the yobs and youths, so when the public try to deal with the problems they are arrested, charged and the police don't do anything about the real issue.
Kent police especially - they're utterly sh*t. We had a party once and some pikeys gatecrashed it. After calling the police, one copper turned up with a police dog, let the pikeys go and arrested 4 of the lads at our party for trying to get their point across about the situation. They all got fined and now have criminal records and these pikeys got away scott free.
The yob culture is not getting better. It won't do. The police don't want to do their job. They are cowards and pervert the course of justice more than anyone.

I think that youths of school age should not be out at by themselves especially after 7pm at night As for town centres during the day as long as they are not causing trouble no problem.Police should have the power to ban youths from town centres why should normal people have to put up with dickheads who cannot act in a respectable manner. curfew would be a good thing.

Councils and police can apply for such an order.
It worked where I live - Youths were congregating around the local shops - causing general nuisance and this escalated to intimidation and fighting. The police applied and put into force a dispersal order. More than 2 youths gathering in a defined area could be moved on - or taken home. It only lasted for 6 months - but it broke the cycle.
Youths did have to find somewhere else to go - but smaller numbers in more places - it was not as intimidating and easier to control.

If youths are not a problem, then of course not.
If the youths are causing trouble and stealing and harassing people.. ie, the "hoodies", then yes. The police do have powers called dispersal orders and can apply for ASBO's to ban them from places they are causing trouble.
I am not an old person, but i am sick and tired of groups of youths hanging around the town centre.. inparticular McDonalds... and drinking, smiking, swearing and generally being intimidating. I didnt do it, so why are they? Why have they not got anything better to do?
Get rid of all the Chavs, i say.

I think the public should be given a method of complaoning, with immediate results.
If you find that a group of people is causing a probelem, you should be able to call a number, and a person be sent to investigate. If he agrees that there is a problem, then he should be able to disperse the group by whatever means necessary.
I don't live in England now, but I was there a couple of years ago, and had been drinking with some guys from work on Friday night, and when the pub closed the street was invaded by squads of police. The trouble makers in that case were the police., most of whom were looking for a fight.

Youths in general? Or youth's with ASBOs or what? I dont think so, they have as much right to be there as you do. Banning them with no reason, ie ones without ASBOs would be a serious restriction on their freedom of movement. I can see why you say that, to stop the dirty little chavs from getting together and causing trouble. But as always it the minority. Banning them isnt the answer, if anything getting them all there and catching them in the act is better because then we got something to discipline them on.

'Youths' is a very narrow term. First of all, 'youths' are male.
But yes, I do think police should be given powers to ban them from public places where they are proving a disturbance and engaging in antisocial behaviour. It's enforcing the bans that would prove more difficult.

I think they should be allowed to ban youths with a good reason. I would think the reason would be they are causing problems. Its only fair for them to protect the youths that are not causing problems. As a parent I wouldn't want my child being bullied or given drugs by the wrong crowd.

If there is an area where people congregate and become a serious nuisance to the general public by drinking, fighting, setting up drug deals etc then there should be a curfew put on the area and the police should be given the power to enforce it.
