I will be open minded. Can you help me by telling me the good AND bad side to your religion, if there is one.
I have a bit of a hard time believing in anything other than facts, so can you SHOW me something that will change (open?) my mind.

I do believe that the reality we inhabit is very hard to explain without a creator and I am comfortable and in awe of that at the same time. I also feel the spirituality of the world and its contents.

Help me to see what else is ...........

Thank you.

Sorry, I firmly believe that proselytization is wrong. What I can do, however, is make suggestions to help you find your own way.

First, I recommend writing out what you DO and DO NOT believe in and also the things that you're not sure about. This will help put you on the right path. In checking out any new faith system, these are the things that you should look at first. For instance, if you DO NOT believe in hell but you're contemplating joining a church that preaches fire and brimstone, it might not be a good match for you.

I also recommend the website http://www.beliefnet.com It has information and many different kinds of faith practices. You can get the basic concepts of each one, ask questions of practioners of that faith/belief in the Q&A section, or, debate the ins and outs of a particular faith practice in their Debate forum. Definitely worth perusing for someone who is seeking their way.

Also, keep in mind that your beliefs will (hopefully) change as you learn and grow as a person. What faith practice fits you like a glove now, you may outgrow in five years. Be open-minded about each new experience as it comes. If you need to change your faith community because it no longer fits you, then by all means do so. To stay a part of a faith community that you don't believe in is not doing any favors to yourself or to the community. Don't stunt your mental, emotional, or spiritual growth to stay true to a concept touted by fallible humans.

I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to write me anytime if you have any questions or want clarification or just want to vent.

I am a Jehovah's Witness.

The good thing about my religion is that we try to follow the Bible EXACTLY how we understand it.

The bad thing is when Preaching, we tend to be pushy, and as i've been told, annoying.

The most evidence i can give you i sappose is the Bible's book of revelations.
The Bible, was written thousands of years ago, but is to this day predicting how the world will change.

The rising of power of some nations, and much more.

But i don't believe you need a religion really, you just need to accept The LORD, Follow His Word, and be repentent of any, and all, sins you make.

If you're looking for spiritual enlightenment, you won't find it in 'facts' or rationality. There is good and bad in every religion (except maybe the Aztec blood cult, but I haven't looked for any good there). In many respects I think being meticulous about the factual side of religion is a hinderance to learning, unfortunately.

I'm a member of this new group called the Order of Rovin. It's heavy on the humanism and emphasizes self reliance and inner strength. Supposedly, a man who hasn't been born yet will become godlike and reach out across all time to show all of humanity how they can activate their own latent Godhood. He maintains that the three Near Eastern faiths of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity, are false because they require us to submit ourselves to a deity that does not exist, and that with time, perhaps several lifetimes, we can become the gods we are supposed to be.

The plus side is that there is a strong emphasis on human dignity and compassion. Strong lessons are learned in being able to help those who cannot help themselves, not for the sake of a god that does no exist but because of our communal obligations to our fellow humans.

On the Down side, there is a strong sense of pride in each individual that borders on arrogant miliantism. When you think that you are a god in waiting, you find yourself feeling over proud, and willing to prove it to people. A group of people like that can be quite intimidating.

BAD SIDE OF MY RELIGION
- lots of rules to follow (of course we don't think of this as bad, only other people do)
- a bible that seems cruel on the surface
- good chance of being persecuted
- depending on the rabbi, the services can be boring
- no christmas or easter

GOOD SIDE OF MY RELIGION
- no dogma, lots of freedom of what you want to believe
- preaching is strongly frowned upon instead of encouraged
- you don't have to believe that your family and friends who are not your religion are going to "hell", you are actually told that "heaven" is open to everybody who is a good person no matter what their faith
- cool holidays like chanukah, purim, and passover
- rabbis are not holy, or have any special status that non-rabbis do not have
