Let her drink as much water as she wants. Water down her juice and think about having her tested for diabetes or dehydration. There is nothing wrong with drinking water but if she is thirsty all the time she may have a problem that you should get checked out. I am diabetic and when my blood sugars elevate I get thirsty. You can also look into what is a normal amount of water consumption for her weight.

Cut out the juice. She won't fill up on just water. She'll be angry about you taking the juice away but you can fresh sqeeze some fruits and show her that there is juice in fruits and that it is better for her body to eat fruits than juice. Without the extra sugar from juices, she'll have more of an appetite for balanced foods.

Maybe you should take her to the doctor, because as others have pointed out, increased thirst may be a symptom of a disease or condition. And if she drinks too much juice, she could develop many cavities as well, so make sure she brushes her teeth or try to neutralize it by swishing/drinking some water afterwards.

Hide the water? Hello! She's five. She can use the potty and wash her hands by herself now. The same water she runs to wash her hands can just as easily be put in a cup. (Ok. I'm done going off on other posters)

Take her to the doctor and have her tested for diabetes. The thirst thing is a good indicator.

Limit the juice but do not limit the water. Would also be a good idea to take her to the doctor to see what they say. Sometimes increased thirst can be a sign of diabetes

Take her for a physical at the doctor. If she really is taking in too much, it is possible that she is lacking a hormone in the brain that controls our thirst. It is called ADH(antidiuretic hormone).
It can cause or be caused by several conditions, one of which is something called diabetes insipidus.
Check into it.

fyi...i am not a doctor. I just saw something on TV about it a couple of weeks ago. Sounds like the same symptoms.

How much is too much? Is she bloated? The main concern would be if she is expelling roughly the same amount of water. IS there any way you can measure the volume of her urine?

If there is nothing obviously wrong with her physically, drinking lots of water is good. Just make sure she doesnt get bloated. If she does then thats bad for her tissues.

give her ice instead of juice and water. it will take longer to melt, and she won't get as much. also, don't let her have drinks with her meals. And remember who the parent is. JUST TELL HER NO. if she starts throwing a tantrum, punish her, give her time out, or send her to bed

unless she is wetting the bed then i am not sure it such a bad thing if she is thirsty.

perhaps she should be tested for diabetes as excessive thirst might be a sign if i recall.

at least water and juice are healthy - at least its not soda

You need to take her to the doctor. She might have diabetes.
Or any number of problems

If it is just a behavioral problem then you need to set some more limits before meals.
