He has had this thing for years. It seems to start in one place of his nose and then moves to another but it is like a boil but nothing seems to come to a head. He says that it swells and becomes really painful. Any ideas on what it is and how can he get rid of it?

Why don't you get him to go see a dermatologist? It could also be something he eats perhaps he should try think what he's eaten in the 24 hours before it appears, but he should still see a specialist.
