It is racist. Look at your comments! I mean first they say "nope not racist" then its "we are infested...the only ones coming are hispanic..." That sounds like racism to me. I also live in NC. Yes there are a lot of undocumented hispanics here. But never once have they personally done any wrong to me. Never once have I seen them burning a flag. In fact most of the hispanics I know when the "Day without hispanics" thing came along thought it was absolutely ridiculous. They didn't participate. Most of the ones I know are learning or already know English, pay taxes, hold down good jobs, and are never in trouble.
To the sabrina girl above me:
MY firsthand knowledge tells me that they can be illegal and pay taxes. My husband has done it every year for the past 5. So thank you for your help.

It shouldn't be a racist topic, but it finds itself to be at times, from parties on both sides.
It is a matter of law and order, and a clash of cultures. It is also a matter of economic issues. We cannot be the world's welfare provider. Years ago, masses of people were needed to fuel America's industrial economy. This is no longer the case. Smaller numbers of people with selected skills can still be absorbed, but a large volume of undocumented individuals of lower skill cannot. If you are an Illegal, you are probably not a doctor or an engineer, and are less likely on the whole to be a contributor to the well being of the country.
There is nothing wrong with securing ones borders.
If the Hispanic people in the US you speak of are Citizens, then they have a stake in this issue as well, so where is the bias?

You are wrong when you say there are no more Mexicans coming over here than before. You are stating things that aren't factual. Look at the statistics. NC, the state that we live in has been infested with illegals from Mexico. It wasn't that way at all 20 years ago. The reason you see so many derogatory remarks directed at them is because of the way they behave. If burning the American flag and disrespecting and assaulting Americans in their own country isn't reason enough for them to be disliked, I don't know what is. They earned their bad reputation.

Mexico has for generations been Invading the United States with a State Sponsored purge of their poor under class. Weakly addressed in the past it is now presenting a real clear and present danger! America is not "biased" to protect themselves...Mexico is the Criminal trespassers Invading and committing an act of war Against America! Mexicans flee the country of their birth for a better life, like leeches steal from the resources of another, claim they are a Race...not a nationality, then claim undying loyalty to those that oppressed them and threw them of of the it homeland.
It is you that is bigoted, biased, prejudice, and ignorant.

I am American, against illegal immigration, but not living in the US, so I can't say for sure what is motivating the latest debate about this. I can say it has ALWAYS been an issue, but it seems the numbers are now phenomenal. For me, it has nothing to do with race. Living abroad as a resident alien to my present country of residence (a legal resident not planning to immigrate permanently) I have a wider perspective than most people do on this issue. I am married to a non-American, and it is quite possible that in the forseeable future we will move to America. I have investigated immigration procedure and policy. Illegal immigration hurts everyone, not least of whom are the illegal immigrants. I have NO problem with legal immigration no matter what the country or ethnicity of origin, but I have a LEGITIMATE grief with illegal immigration (pun intended). I also have a problem with people who want to immigrate to a country because they want what they can get from it, but they don't want to become part of the country. I'm all for people maintaining their homeland culture and being proud of it, celebrating it at every turn. I cannot accept people living in a country, getting what they can from it, but badmouthing it at every turn, not as a citizen of that country would, but as a stranger would, someone who remains on the outside looking in, judging it from without. I've seen plenty of Americans living abroad do the same thing, and I have no doubt that the people who defend that behavior by immigrants within the US would be disgusted to see Americans exhibiting it abroad. They would be among the first to slap them down.
I also find it terribly amusing that RIQUE accuses pro-legals of being the ones to jump to the conclusion that any reference to illegal immigration is a reference to Mexicans. What I see more than anything else is people who are pro-legal being called racists when they have never even mentioned a particular race. Unless the accuser is the one assuming that all illegals are of one race, there can be no accusation of racism, and if the accuser assumes that all illegals are of one race, then he or she is racist. Illegal is not a race, and there is no one race that is exclusively represented among illegals. They come from all ethnicities, nationalities, faiths, and races.

No, it's not a racist thing ... it has to do with legal vs illegal ... border security, and finances ... we don't know who they are, where they are from, what their purpose here is ... we don't even know exactly how many they are ... have you ever heard of a country that allows anybody, from anywhere, unchecked through their borders? There is a perfectly legal way of doing this, there are even guest worker programs that have been used by migrant workers in the past, and are still perfectly valid ... so, why not use them? Where is the racism in all this? Those who are anti illegal are just that ... anti illegal! Explain to me how it can be racist if you are against illegal immigration from anywhere on this globe ... white, black, brown, yellow, red ... I reiterate - where is the racism?????

No it's just that most of the immagrants in America are Hispanic so It just seems that way. I think they turned it into a race thing as a defense mechanism. This is to the Angel girl below me. If they are paying taxes that means they have a green card and a work permit that means they are legal. You don't have to be a citizen to be legal, You just have to be registered. The government is going after the other ones sweety.

I dunno not really. Look at it from a different perspective, for example, my mom came into America legally from England...she had to go through a long imigration process to get it all legal and right. She hates it when she hears about other people sneaking in across the boarder. And if you think about it, it is not racially based at all. All the people south of the American/mexican border are obviously hispanic. Any other race coming into American would be coming in across an ocean by plane...not sneaking across the border on foot.

No, it is just that fair and evenhanded enforcement of our immigration laws will hit more Mexicans than people of any other nationality. That is because more Mexicans broke the law to begin with, though. Not because it is biased against Mexicans.

The issue is not that they are hispanic. The issue is they come here illegally, many don;t learn english and many are not loyal to USA. If they come legally, and speak english, people would stop complaining
