I have a friend that drinks...She has kids, a husband....etc....anyway.. It is odd to me the way she drinks....it's almost daily. I call her to ask her out and she says no, can't meet you, I've been drinking...so I can catch her on a non-drinking day, once in a while...

What gets me is she drinks heavily, but keeps an immaculate house, yard, she even routinely checks oil in her cars. She won't drive if drinking. She cleans while drinking....I asked her once if she was concerned about how much she drank and she said no, not really....

This is where I'm at a loss. The girl can drink 18 beers and clean and never slur a word, she won't drive though, but she'll wake up at 6am no problem...

What's the deal??? Know anyone like this? (This is a 5 year long thing I've been wondering....5 years I don't know if I should call her an alchy or a freak...or whatever....)

Two words: LIVER - FAILURE

The liver remembers all, and those that talk about how they feel so great now and all is well, are going to wake up one day (and I mean suddenly one day) to the hell of liver failure. Your metabolism is different huh? It's called alcoholism and tolerance. The liver will compensate for a long time and then when it's over; it's OVER! Death is fast enough to devastate your family and friends but slow enough to make you wish you were dead faster! Liver failure is torture and even more so for those that have to watch you die. Tell your friend to drink up and have a ball because she is going to pay dividends for it in the end, and that end is nearer than she thinks. She has kids? Well I'm sure those kids are going to enjoy spending 4 to 5 hours a day 3 days a week seeing mommy on dialysis. They are going to love it when mommy is on lactulose so she stops hallucinating and going psychotic. Let's not forget that mommy has to wear a diaper that needs to be changed. When mommy lingers into a coma and slowly dies a horribly painful death, I'm sure they will remember the good times and be just fine. But what the hey, it's just a few glasses of wine, she doesn't drive drunk, who is she hurting anyway...

I grew up arround people that drink like that. I used to do that till I turned 23. It odd thing cause my grandfather stopped at 67 and he ended up cutting his fingers off and crashing a car because he had never been with out alchoal the lack of it messed up his body levels wierd is right. If she does not drive and has not had a health problem she is still a alchy as u put it but the damage to her body and brain will catch up with her at some point.

I've been living like this for twenty years. No problems working, waking up or any at all really. No headaches, nothing. I just like my wine. Maybe we just have different metabolisms to other people? I'm not concerned. It's just my favourite drink, along with water. I can easily drink two bottles of wine a day with no ill effects whatsoever. Odd, isn't it? That was a good question, BTW.

Most Europeans drink a bottle or two of wine or several beers every day. They never get drunk and they function just fine. They generally do not drive after drinking.

Hmm...sounds like your friend might have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. It doesn't sound that bad though. Sounds like she just drinks to keep her daily routine in life. I say shes fine if she can handle it herself.

If it gets to where she can't handle it anymore...I say help her.Right now she seems fine and I think you can let her be.Oh and yeah...she might also have a high tollerence on alcohol.
