To keep them cool, or warm inside, and to keep the bugs out.

you seem to be playing with words..it's true their doors are always open (meaning 24/7) to customers but this doesn't mean since it is always 'open' you can do away with a door.
in the past people stay in villages and the other neighbours who lived there got along well with one another. therefore everybody did not feel the need to close their door and left it open.
but now as society becomes more advanced, we are living around people that we do not know thus we need to be wary of them (human instinct) so we closed our doors at night before we sleep.
Doors represent a shielding device that protects us, who are behind the door, from whatever that lies in front of us. It's actually a psychological feeling: without the door you will feel weird. Same for would you feel safe if you open your house door at night and just go to sleep? only when we totally feel at ease will then the doors be done away with.

They do close sometimes, very few are open sunday nights. It is against the law in Britain. Also, they might want to change opening some day, and also they will need to close them in an emergancy, or if there is refurbishment. They also need to keep animals out.

In the UK because of sunday trading laws 27hr places actually close about 10pm on a saturday night, open 10am on sunday morning, close 4pm sunday and open again 8am on the monday! Also need doors for keeping in/out cold/hot, bugs and birds.

great question.. they do because of instalation in the store. if its snowing outside or raining they need to close the doors to keep the heat in.... or if its really hott outside they need to have air conditiong on and keep the doors shut to keep the cold air in to cool off the coustomers.. .. plus at 2-5 in the morning the coustomers are extremely thin.. so its not worth having no doors.

To keep nature out. Like wind, cold, hot. That is a stupid question. Seriously. You're supposed to ask why they have locks on the doors , not why they have doors. EEk!

It's locks, not doors. The joke was 'Why do stores that are open 24/7 have locks?'

Forget about temp control, how about animal and bug control!!! Who wants to go into a supermarket that has birds, cats and dogs, competing for what's on the shelves? Doesn't that happen enough with us humans?

Sometimes it gets cold outside and doors help to stop the cold wind and draft blowing in?
