Love of country is patriotism and is within every person in order that a state will exist. Every citizen is proud of one's country no matter what. A person will always cheer for his country in sports, competitions, beauty pageants and will die for it in war.

A person is patriotic if they are born in the country they live in and love it. Others who move away from their country and live elsewhere can still love the country they live in and still be patriotic and love the land they were born in.

I am Australian, born and bred and love this country. I lived in California for two years. I arrived there in August 2001 and when 9/11 happened there was no way no terrorist was going to frighten me into going home. I had married an American girl who had a son and a business and American friends and family.
I was patriotic and showed the American and the Australian flag because I believe it is up to us to be patriotic and show others that we will not buckle under tyranny.
