I have a 1 1/2 yr old, 3 1/2 yr old and an almost 9 yr old....they go shopping with me, we go to the park a lot.....but frankly, I think I'm a boring mom....what are some ideas to spruce up motherhood....the only thing I've been able to come up with are the various things offered by the library, or sports....but there has to be more ideas...I just hate getting into a two week rut with nothing to do...(okay, I love it, but think I'm ruining my kids....)

or do you think a rut, just hanging around the house is okay? I just feel bad when it happens....

i dont think it really matters as long as you are all together.
I had three brothers and we didnt have much money but i have a very fond memory of my childhood and the best times that i can remember were not ones of organized activities but times when we were all together laughing.
My mum would do things to make up for us not having money like make us fish and chips and wrap them in paper like they did at the takeaway shop (which we couldnt afford) then let us eat in front of the tv, which we were never usually allowed to do. This sounds really silly and not much at all but as an adult, those little things that she did make me smile because i know she loved us. Simple things done together make the best memories and we were always laughing. We were NEVER in the house though. We went fishing, walking, to the park, visiting, shopping etc but I always knew that she really enjoyed hanging out with us. We were her favourite people and she genuinely liked all of us. As i grew up i realized that we were not the norm and she is a really special mum. Kids just want to be loved and with their mum.

Most of the big book stores have readings which could be fun for the younger kids. Your older child can look around while the young ones are at story time. Local libraries usually have no charge or inexpensive summer programs. Is there a zoo or museum near you? My friend sends her kids to vacation bible school, they aren't especially religous, but it gets the kids out of the house. YMCAs usually have lots of programs, not sure of the cost. Home Depot's have kid projects too. Hope this helps.

One more thing - cook with your kids. Cooking is fun and there are cookbooks available that are geared to children. There is an entire generation of kids that don't know how to feed themselves and as a result they eat too much fast food.

So, you admit to being a soccer mom and love it? Girl, living vicariously thru your children does not work, for anybodies health. Read to them, rent movies that have historical meaning or will educate them at the same time entertain them. The earlier we begin to learn, the smarter we become. Get into exercise with them, while they will wear you out, teach them the wisdom of building energy through stretching and Ti Chi. Stay as far away from traveling in your car as is possible. Strong kids rarely become victims of crime if only because they can run away from the nutsos.

You are so fortunate to be able to do that. Believe me, even if you think you are in a rut, your children will always remember Mom was there for them. My daughter is a single mom with 3 kids and they have a lot of fun together and are growing up to have a great sense of ethics and sense of humor. If you nurture those two things, you will have given your kids a lifetime gift. Good for you!!

It's not what you do but who you're with... you are spending time with your kids and that's good enough.

Probably your issue is the wide age gap, its not possible to have an activity that engages all 3 of your kids at the same time. You might want to target having activities that interest each kid one at a time. At least each kid will have a memorable activity at least once a day, or once a week.

As long as you are spending time with them and talking to them you are not a boring mom. You can get ideas on the internet for different craft projects to do or baking reciepes. Any kids just love spending time with their parents even if you are just watching tv.

get a subscription to FAMILY FUN magazine or order 20 back issues from me.
I would suggest taking them to karate classes, but mostly I'd suggest reading family fun magazine. Tons of ideas there.
Also take them to a church where they teach that Jesus is the only way to Heaven (by Faith in HIm alone)
