I agree with you...baiting happens here way too much. People who are looking for answers to their questions are getting lost in a sea of arguement and mis-information.
I come here in the spirit of Isa. 1:18, and invite those who are seeking truth along...been a strange trip so far, but wouldn't trade it for the world!!!

I have never posted in this section before, but I think that if people simply opened their minds a little to the PHILOSOPHY behind other religions, they would be surprised how amazing some other religions are. I was not raised in a religious household, but I have always been spiritual. I think it is silly to think that just because we call that power that is greater than us something different that they are separate entities. In order to properly answer a question in the religion, one should understand the basic principles of the religion or belief system of the person ansking the question and answer respectfully, whether they have different beliefs or not. It is ok to express your opinion, but nobody should be so naive to pretend that their opinion is better than someone else's. Everyone believes what they believe because of things they have seen, experienced, learned, etc. While older people may have had more time to experience these things, there are some younger people who have been exposed to so much at so young an age, that they could actually have a more realistic perspective.
You really do not know what the people asking and answering these questions have been through, so judging someone based on 5 lines of text is a waste of time. In my opinion, people who like to bash should do so anonymously on CraigsList rants&raves.

G'day - you pose an intelligent question so I shall attempt to answer it intelligently.
A lot of atheists, agnostics and those from diverse religions are genuinely and sincerely interested in the beliefs of others. They ask questions, and, with the exception of a very slim few, get read the hell fire act and do indeed "have religion shoved down their throats'.
Granted there are quite a few s.hit stirrers who just pop in for a good old arguement, but there are plenty of people who would like genuine answers to their questions instead of the standard "read the bible" or "you're going to burn in hell" type answer. Worse still are those who copy and paste endless bible tracts and tell you that is the only way to be saved.
So I guess what I'm saying, is that you don't have to be religious to be spiritual and have a healthy interest in religion.

I totally agree with you! This is a Q&A forum on religion and related issues. So expecting Christians to answer questions goes with the territory. Unless a gun is physically being pointed at one's head, I don't see how any reasonable person can accuse another of shoving a religious truth onto him in a cyber environment!

Religious and spiritual discussion should be about respecting others' beliefs and not adhering to the notion that one's way or religion (or non-religion) invalidates or is better than others. If we speak to someone with the thought that we have the truth and they don't, it ends dialog. I think most people's experiences with religion is that they meet many who don't engage in open dialog and instead offer religious platitudes that aren't open to debate. I know, too, that the same is true in 'secular fundamentalists' - those who won't allow any other possibility into a discussion if it's out of accord with their own secular/scientific biases.

People do come here to tell religious people they don't like their views, because here is where they can let religious people know they don't like their views without getting into it in person.
It's all right with me. I love God and Christ and I like variety - hot, cold, irritable, gracious, indignant, confrontational, unlovable, screamers, smilers, Muslims, Atheists, Buddhists, Sufis, Zoroastrians, arithmeticians and illiterate (uh?), as long as they are not in the same room and smiling while shaking a fist or throwing a punch; this is a very cool venue for hatred, resentment, irrationality, revenge, bitterness, or smugness, mistrust or love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, gentleness, self-control, or faith, whether it is kind atheists or retaliatory Christians displaying the qualities named.

Some people who come into YahooAnswers dont want to read or give answers, they want to mouth off.
And you can't have a conversation under this format, because it is not a forum.
Some questions are just rhetorical, the asker wants you to think.
Some answerers just give 2 or 3 word answers just to collect the points.

Harry Truman is reported to have once said, "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen." That applies here. People approach this site with the purpose of having an intelligent discussion, without a lot of rants, and if you don't want to have that sort of discussion, you shouldn't be here.

I think that most other people are referring to people who accost them in public or in their homes. Obviously you don't have to deal with religious people if you don't want to in Yahoo questions. There are alot of people who won't take no for answer when you tell them to leave you alone when they are talking religion at you. I especially don't appreciate this when I'm paying to eat lunch. I also don't want to be disturbed in my own home by someone who thinks I need to be saved. There are a bunch of religions that require their members to go out and convert others and the rest of us don't appreciate it.

it's a public forum in a free country friend. what's wrong with opposing views? just because i don't believe in the bible and everything that goes with it do you think i should stay out of the religious section? i think not. i do get tired of people pushing their way of life down my throat. i have a right to say that. sometimes i get my chain pulled and sometimes i pull chains. that's the way it works in america. i guess you just want things your way. not gonna happen.
