HIV/AIDS is a retrovirus.. That makes it extremely hard to cure.. But in theory, if people are still around it will be curable.. I don't expect humans to be around long enough though ha ha.
I think the big progress we can actually expect to see will be with extremely inexpensive and convenient testing. Currently there are devices that can quickly detect the markers from virtually every cancer at very low cost and at very early stages for example. But the medical establishment.. well.. you know lol.
On the other hand, if our societies were at all sane, they'd hold people responsible for the violent act of knowingly exposing somebody to an STD without informing them. That could perhaps reduce the spread of diseases.

I tried to get my brother in law to hang on "Just until the cure came". I truly believed that one would come back then, Now 10 years after his death we are no closer than before.
Even if there were a cure the drug company's would not release it, They make way to much money off of the drugs they have now.
No I do not believe there will be a cure, maybe a vaccine but not a cure.

Since AIDS is a virus and visuses are constantly evolving, I think the only way to stop AIDS is by vaccine. I don't think there will ever be a cure.
