Are the American automobile manufacturers ever going to wake up?

After witnessing the collapse of the GMC, and large amputations of the jobs in Ford, we must learn something.

The former head of Nissan's engineering team said after the fall of GMC, "the American automobile industry failed to listen to what the consumers demand."

Sure, our flashes are being eaten off by the Japanese and other foreign autos, but I do not see any sign of getting better.

Will the perfect storm come to the U.S. automakers? Will the Americans see the major fall of the American auto industries, significantly affecting our economy and bring the nightmare? (well, we are sort of having the nightmare already...)

Will the Americans get up from the comfort zone? Or will we change after the horrible events wake us up? Or will we fall into the deep, unwakeable sleep forever?

I want to hear what you think.

i think that the american auto industery has to get it together or get out they are competing against some though compition they should take a look at what we want and and build around that or at least put some thought in to what they are doing instead of just throwing parts together and seeing if it will sell plus they should build there cars here instead of sending there work to mexico and under pay them to put it together wrong

I want a bigger truck because I want more power and more horsepower. I want my truck to be tall and wide so that everyone knows I'm an American. I know they use a lot of gas, but we have the most advanced military in the world with big trucks and Hummers to make sure we always have enough gas.

I don't mind paying 45,000 for my Ford/GMC/Dodge because it is bigger then a 20,000 Toyota/Nissan and besides, ain't that what good credit is all about?

Ford/GMC/Dodge know me well. The know my needs and continue to supply them. Only problem, now with gas at over $3 a gallon I'm havin just a bit of trouble making the note on the truck, my wife's Escalade and the house. The old paycheck just don't seem to go quite as far as it used to. You know, maybe I should trade that Ford/GMC/Dodge in and get a Toyota after all.
