AVG Free or symantec corporate
Norton AV is bloated and will make any CPU over a few years old crawl.
McAffee is the same with the added bonus of being horrible.

Firewalls are useless - once you allow an application it can then be hacked. Just use XP firewall or a router.

If you must use a software firewall, zone alarm is tried and tested.

Go with AVG. My aunt has worked with computers for many years now and would never recomend anything else. I've got it and have no problems with it ever.

Trend Micro and Norton Deluxe seem to be the best for me. You might want to consider a dlink as well.
