when crap happens to you in your life?
The way you deal with it helps to make you a better person, more empathetic and understanding when other people go through s**t.. It is nothing to do with God, you are right they can't think of anything else.

Some people not just christians get a lot of comfort from their beliefs, I do not think this should be knocked as it must be a great comfort in this increasingly dangerous world. The problems begin when faith turns to fanatism, such people use their god as an excuse to go to war and try to explain this as God's word. When crap happens, I always ask WHY did I let this happen, can I avoid it again and not who to blame.

It may not be a "test", it could actually be pennance for some crap we did.

We don't blame God... we blame ourselves. Take a little responsibility for your own actions and stop blaming everybody else...including God.

P.S. Addition: Look at this stuff....

1. It's their way of ensuring that god gets all the praise when things go right, but none of the blame when they go wrong

2. They have to have an excuse and reason for everything, blaming God and Jesus is easiest

These two statements come from two different people on this page. Isn't it obvious that Christian haters like to have their cake and eat it too? Have you ever seen such stupidity? To never blame God when things go wrong and then right behind that we blame God for all trouble because its easy. These poor confused people.

They wheel it out because they believe it to be true. And if someone thinks they know the reason for the apparently random cruelties that afflict us - I'm very happy for them! We all need to try to make sense of chaos - Christians think God is the sense.

I can think of many other reasons for it. Often the things that take place in our lives are not dictated by God... but rather the result of the choices we ourselves have made. If you choose to call in sick and stay out of work for a day.... it wasnt God who decided to test you to see if you can get by without enough money to pay your bills. If you develop lung cancer... it isnt God choosing to test you ... its all those marlboro's.
Does God test us.... yes he does in many ways..... but not everthing that happens to us that is bad is a test.... sometimes we need to think about what choice did we make that brought us to the place we are now.

I guess it's for a reason but in my case, I have been through nearly everything you can think of , it's becoming a bit tedious. At 47 years old I would actually like to have some fun instead of fighting battles.

This is a question that nearly always comes from people who are bitter in some way.
The answer is simple: following God is not for wimps.
God said that as long as we follow him, he won't throw anything at us that we cannot handle with his help. People who commit suicide are really never doing what God wants them to do.

Well, I imagine every faith has an answer like that for questions like this, but it seems to be more for cultural and social purposes than spiritual ones. It's easier to say, "This is a testing place, not a resting place" than it is to say, "I don't know why this bad thing happened to you and not to me. I don't know why bad things happen to good people." It's even harder to say, "There's a part of me that feels glad that God chose you for this and not me." I just don't think that's peculiar to Christians--I think it has more to do with our societal unwillingness to just sit and listen when someone wants to talk about a problem. We'd rather they and their problems went away, so we offer a quick, sympathetic platitude and move on.

Its not a test from God. God never promised us an easy trouble free life, He promised to help us through our troubles and that it would never be to much to cope with because he is with us.
