Water is abundant in nature, more abundant than land, minerals, diamonds, etc.
If water cost what diamonds cost, we would all be dead from lack of water.
What do you suggest?

Have you ever tried to cut glass with water? Diamonds have many uses as the hardest naturally occurring structure known to humans. Water does as well but because water is far more plentiful it's cheaper. Besides when real ice is given to a woman in a gold setting the melt factor takes the joy quickly out of the engagement ritual.
I'm not fond of the high status diamonds get when they actually are quite plentiful but controlled by the DeBeers monopoly. If diamonds really were rare then why does every man, woman and some children have at least one? A diamond engagement ring would mean a man knew me very little. I'd rather have an emerald, they're prettier.
Peace.

water is plentiful and diamonds are expensive because humans put so much value into it. Really, if you're walking in the dessert, do you want water or a diamond. People need to realize diamond is a piece of rock. Given that it is the hardest rock and can be used for technological purposes but culturally, its supposed to have some sort of meaning.

Because it is more abundant and less people are required to make the finished product. The more hands that touch a product, the more expensive it is. Diamonds take miners, sorters, cutters, graders, jewelers and retailers before you get them. All these people take a cut of the profit. Water is everywhere and doesn't take much work to get.

Diamonds arent expensive because humans wish it to be, its simple supply and demand, high demand low supply equals high market price.
A higher demand of water, however a higher supply, causes a lower mp.

it depends on the availabilty. when theres limited supply of a commodity the price will be high . but in the near future .. give it like 15 years water will be the most expensive thing ever.

People don't have to work hard to bring it to the surface. Water is more plentiful; at the moment anyway.
