Very well said and I as a Christian minister for one applaud your willingness to bring this to light. Salvation is not a license to sin. There is a big difference from knowing the word of God.... and applying what it teaches to your own life and living it. Also you bring another good point to light in that many "claim" to be Christian... going to church every Sunday doesnt make you a christian any more than standing in a garage everyday makes you a mechanic....claiming and being are two seperate things.... I can claim to be as handsome as a movie star... but i also have to look at my face when i shave. Jesus said in John 15:17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.
And we should start practicing it.. however understand that loving someone does not mean you have to love their choices.... if someone asks me for example if i love homosexuals.... yes i do.... because God loves homosexuals... however he does not love the lifestyle choice they have made. By me saying I dont condone homosexuality does not mean I dont love the people in the gay community.... it simply means i dont condone that choice. Fact is the outcome of that is between them and God himself I can only instruct them to what the word says about it.
We should all as Christians remember .... our first and foremost obligation to Christ is to be a good ambassador to him. I learned many years ago..... only about 5% at most learn of Christ for the very first time in the Bible..... the other 95% learn of him for the first time by watching and listening to Christians..... and we always need to remember that!!
God bless you and have a wonderful day :)

All forms of everything negative can be traced back to fear. Many Christians are so afraid of hell and of a vengeful, jealous God, that it creates a mistrust of their higher power.
God is supposed to be the ultimate protector. No matter what happens, no matter what you do, God will love you and take care of you. You may not like, or even understand, the things he chooses to put in your life to give you strength, but his presence is the only absolute.
When God becomes the punisher instead of the ultimate source of love, people become neurotic messes. Their lives are based on making others miserable to distract from their self hatred and the idea that they are going to "hell" because they can't meet impossible standards.

The Christ I lived with turned over the tables in the Temple and chased out the riff-raff.
The Christ I lived with shouted "Heal yourself" when he was inundated by sick people.
I do agree with the gist of what you say, but Jesus also said Give unto Cesar what is Ceasars and unto God what is God's.
Jesus never expected you to be a door mat.
In fact he said if they slammed the door in your face, turn, wipe the dust from your feet and keep going.
He also said carry a sword.

Yeah, I am a Christian who tries to strive to be the righteous person we are all suppose to be. The Christians filled with hate need to instead of bad mouthing their enemies, pray for their enemies, is that not what Jesus called us to do? And while God's grace forgives us for all of our sins that we have done, are doing, and will do, we still need to all strive to be more righteous people. When someone slaps you on the cheek, turn and offer them your other cheek.

It is sad, isn't it? But we are all human, and we all have faults, so the worst thing we can do is go around pointing fingers. Don;t get me wrong - It is good to offer correction when someone is in the wrong - just don't force it down their throat.
Oh, remember not to generalize - you haven;t yet, but from the way this question is posed, it's sounding a bit like generalization.

it isn't right for anyone to act that way especially in the way of christ. do you know the story in the bible when people began throwing stones at the harlot? they were throwing stones at her because they knew what she was doing was wrong and they thought they were right to persecute her for it. jesus then stepped in and said he who has not sinned may throw the first stone. and no one could throw a stone. the people threw the stone because the thought it was okay to persecute people themselves for that persons wrong doing. this is a classic example of that situation but a different way of doing it. if they wanna learn teach them if not, let them find their own way and every man's judegement be his own.

The simple answer is that most Christians aren't very Christian
But that would be too easy...
It might be American Christians are ill-mannered, hateful, bigoted, biased etc etc etc.........not because they are bad Christians but because they are too Americanized....the old "ugly American" syndrome

If you think they are self proclaimed why will you ask a question like that? If you think they are hateful wouldn't it be because they are self proclaimed as you say and they are not real?

Because most Christians are not required to do anything to repent or atone for their misbehavior so they have no reason to refrain from doing whatever they want.
