Read the Bible, God explains Himself there. He explains why He does certain things and it helps me to understand these better.

God gets angry when He sees the wickedness of man. That is why He brought about the flood. And destroyed wickedness in Sodom and Gomorrah. People ask "if God is loving, why did He destroy people?" They were wicked.
The wicked of today will get what they have earned. Bad things happen-to God's people. I am a child of God, and bad things have happened in my life. (Sexual abuse for one.) SOme might ask WHY would God let that happen? I say that God took what someone's free will (of evil) did and turned it into good. He made me stronger, more compassionate, and able to help others in similar situations. Also, working with children, I am better able to spot the signs. Yes, it as bad what happened, but there were some blessings from it.

"The fool hath said in his heart: there is no God" Psalms 14:1 and 53:1. So true he said it twice.
As for free will, isn't it lucky you have it, or you would never have been able to make the comments or deny God like this.

God gave man free will. He can't overrule that gift because his gifts and calling are without repentance. However God is not responsible for what man does with that free will. Man is responsible before god for all his actions, and someday man will face God to answer for those actions.

Free will comes with the responsibility of wise use and the consequence of wrong use. No one escapes, no one mocks God.

Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Romans 14:12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

The truth is, they can only get away with it right now because this is the age of Grace. The age of God's divine unmerited favour.
One day soon will come the day of judgement. Then they'll be sorry.

I am not sure about your question. We have free will because God gave it to us. We suffer and so does He when we make the wrong choice. In the Bible God had Sodom destroyed. God told them not to have men with men&women & women but they did.Their consequence was to have the city destroyed. So the evil was destroyed. I don't remember anything about children in that scripture but it sounds reasonable that children would be in the city and were probably killed also.It has happened in every war. Don't worry though because God is in control of everything!

If you share your lpartner's views on torture etc ...I don't suppose you would go against them. If you didn't you probably wouldn't be able to put up with it.
One God is a replacement theory for the parthenon of 'pagan' gods from different cultures originally in the Middle East, the theory that people can hurt and kill others in order to test the faith of believers has no foundation.

What your trying to understand is why people allow others to conduct immoral acts whilst giving the excuse 'because God has allowed them free will'.
God did not intend mankind to exercise free will to the extent they do in todays society. He wanted mankind to choose his headship, we are made in Gods image, hence we have some of the qualities of God - Love being one of them.
Do you think it is loving to kill and maim women and children, to bomb and to torture as you say?
God does not agree with these acts, as do people who willingly choose to serve him.
Yes it is our choice who we serve, what acts we conduct, but be assured it is not Gods will that has ensured all the suffering in this world.
Soon all those who do acts of wickedness will be seperated from the righteous, as it says in the scriptures regarding Revelation.
Question is - how could you love someone who is capable of such disgusting acts?

OK, free will is just so we won't be like robots and what is the point in loving something like that? Wouldn't you want something that you made love you because it chose you?
Its just like a child, wouldn't you want your child to love you willingly?

And the whole bomb and torture is something that humans do, not God. If You want to get mad at someone, get mad at the people who do these things. And You shouldn't even be mad at them, because we have all sinned, we have all done something really bad in our lives.
Matthew 7:2
Do not judge so that you will not be judged.
Love your enemies.

this is a classical common question. simply, god gave commandments, told us not to sin. if we do there will be consequences. sin is satan taking over. murdering is a sin. that is satan not god. god said thou shall not murder. if someone murders they are going against god. god didn't want them to murder it was against gods rules and god will give the proper punishment. if we did not go against god, there would be no murder, no lies, no cheating, no greed etc.. the world would be a utopia and there wouldn't be 3/4 of the pain we suffer because we chose to sin and disobey. if terrorists didn't disobey, 9-11 wouldn't have happened rape wouldn't happen. sin is a consequence even if it means someone else has to pay for it. it is not the physical body that will last eternity but the spiritual. as long as the spirit is pure there could be no pain or sorrow after death. only the physical body can suffer. pray for those whose body and spirit will suffer.

It is sort of a mystery, and its a mystery that I am sure we cannot fathom with our tiny, human minds.

There are many questions we have for our creator, this among them.

My best answer at this point would have to be that the bad things in this world are a result of Satan. And sometimes in the midst of terror and chaos, we forget all the beautiful miraculous things that happen to us everyday.

Jesus Christ conquered death and God is powerful and loving enough to erase all the physical and emotional scars that he has allowed to exist only temporarily. You cannot understand because you are just human and not capable of fixing all things back again like God is.

Free-will.

There is a trade-off between free-will and the resulting suffering.

God does limit the amount of suffering on earth, and the suffering that any individual creature has to face.

Cordially,
John
