Hi, I apologize for possibly misunderstanding your question... I'm not sure of what you're really asking and perhaps you aren't either... I prayed to God about how best to answer you... I am a strong Christian... this is my first time answering a question on yahoo answers....
Christians believe in the "Trinity" -- one God, Who is composed of 3 parts: God the Father, God the Son (named Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit (the essence and the radiance of God, and a helper of God -- (for more on the Holy Spirit, look up Holy Spirit in the Bible and read "The Mystery of the Holy Spirit" by R.C. Sproul)). Christians believe in this "Trinity" because this is what the Word that God left to us, The Bible, teaches us -- that these are the roles God owns: God as a Father, God as a Son, and God as a Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ was (and still is) God Himself (not God the Father, but God the Son) -- a part of the Godhead.
In the Old Testament, God's chosen people had to pray to God through a priest. but since Jesus IS God (in the form of man, in the form of God's Son), Christians can go directly to God in prayer. Christians have a representative whom God has sent for them -- His Son. The Bible says (Psalm 110:4, and Hebrews Chapter 5 throughout) of Jesus, "I have sworn and will not change my mind -- You are a High Priest Forever, in the order of Melchizedek". This means that we don't need an earthly priest (one thing that differentiates the Roman Catholic church from common Christianity) because as it states, Jesus is our High Priest, our intercession to God the Father.
Christians don't pray to Jesus Himself -- they pray to God. But: When they pray to God, they do so with the understanding that Jesus is there with God (the Father), seated at the right hand of God (the Father), just as the Bible says. They pray with the understanding that it is Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, that intercedes for mere, undeserving humans as themselves to an infinite, omnipotent, divine, intelligent being... And when Christians pray, they also pray to God with the remembrance of how Jesus instructed them to pray in The Bible -- to God the Father, as when he taught them the Lord's prayer ("Our Father, Who art in Heaven...").
Before Christ (God the Son), every time people met with God, they had to offer sacrifices (burnt offerings (animals, and things which were of very high value and esteem)) for their sins because there was no atonement that could possibly suffice for (be enough remedy for) their sins in the sight of God's pure holiness. But as you continue to read the Bible, when you get to the New Testament, you then discover that all the prophesies of the Old Testament had indeed come to pass!! -- you begin to cross-reference everything, and see that they were all fulfilled -- praise God!!! Yes, just as was foreshadowed of a coming Saviour throughout the Old Testament, indeed, Christ, God's own Son of whom was prophesied about by the prophets, indeed came to earth in the form of mere man, lived a perfect, sinless life (and the only way He was able to do that was because He was indeed God and holy -- part of the Godhead), so that *BE* a substitute us there on the cross... (My, what a high price God paid for us: the torture, shame, humiliation, and death of His own perfect Son!!) But he was buried, and rose again after 3 days... ascending to glory with His Father, and is now (and forevermore) seated on the right hand of the Father (God). You see, CHRIST WAS and IS "the lamb" -- that absolutely perfect, spotless, and pure sacrifice that was necessary... that absolutely PERFECT atonement that was needed that all the sacrifices of the Old Testament could never achieve... the only sacrifice (God Himself, assuming human form in the form of "His Son") that could ever atone for human sins -- this is to say, all the sins of those who would believe in Him (Jesus Christ) and therefore who would be saved (not be separated from God but saved and reign with Him) in all generations God had ordained to come in this world He created. Yes, God has ordained some of His creation to be saved, and some not to be saved but to be in separation from Him (what people call "Hell" but however you think of it, is really just separation from God -- because there is no atonement made for someone who does not believe and accept salvation through Christ the Son). This could actually be either because they did not accept Jesus as their Savior when offered this gift of atonement from God, or because God did not will them to hear of the gospel... (this, by the way, is also where the Holy Spirit comes in -- no need to worry -- you can rest assured that by the work and goings forth of His Holy Spirit and the means God uses in this world (missionaries, for example), those Whom God *wants* to be saved, *WILL* be saved!! -- (He is God, after all!!! Who are we?)) We just succumb to God's will, and while only God knows everything, He tells us that we must"make our calling sure." (that is, live a Christian life, reading the Bible, praying, grow in our Christian faith.)
It is impossible to understand why God loves us... God's wonderful, loving mercy to us, His creation, is so beautiful and beyond human comprehension that we could never understand it, but must simply accept in faith His gift... the substitution of His Son, Jesus Christ, on the cross for us, and the opportunity to accept Our Savior, and to be saved (not separated) and live forever with God as adopted "Sons of God." It is only because of Jesus Christ whom God sent (became flesh) that we have fellowship and communion with God and inheritance in God's Kingdom. When God looks at Christians, He doesn't see us for what we are (sinful, wretched, undeserving beings) -- Instead, He sees His Son, Jesus, there, stamped upon each and every person who has accepted Christ... for God has already paid an unimaginably high, overwhelmingly humbling price to ransom us...His chosen people.
If anyone reading this is not a Christian, I am sincerely praying for you, and I hope that you will think long and deeply about your life... All you have to do is simply ask Jesus into your heart to be your Lord and Savior (but don't just say the words -- you have to mean it with all your heart -- God knows your heart.) From there, you must do as the Bible says to "make your calling sure" by repenting from all known sin, reading your Bible constantly, praying to God, seeking Him with all your heart, and seeking "wisdom as one looks for gold and silver" (as His Word says)..... Spend time with God. Make Him number 1 priority in your life. Ask Him repeatedly to show you the truth... He will reward you with knowledge and blessings. :) God bless you.
