Don't know about rewarding but in a book by Carol D'Amico, she states that by the year 2020, engineers will be one of the most sought after professions.

Financially, it's easy to find job, and starting salary is good.
Personally, I guess that's up to you. If that is what you like to do, than it will be a rewarding career.
