I think they are exactly the same---just different brand names depending on the company that makes it.
I take Celexa, and love it. Gave me my life back, with no side effects past the first couple of weeks.

Same drug, different molecular format. The Lexapro is more potent, b/c it's like two Celexa molecules stuck together. Your dr switched you b/c Celexa is easier to administer in low dosage. A 10mg tab of Lex is= to 30 mg of Celex. So you've actually decreased your dosage by 33%. My dr did the opposite b/c I was taking 30 mg of C and I didn't like cutting pills.

I've used both - first Celexa then Lexapro because I told my doctor the Celexa was making me ridiculously fatigued all the time so she suggested Lexapro. Not entirely sure why. As far as treating depression, neither worked particularly well and they both worked about the same. The best improvement I ever experienced on both meds was just a general state of acceptance for things in my daily life. For instance, instead of waking up and thinking "Do I HAVE to go to class?" I was more likely to just do it without having to deliberate. But that put me a little too much in robot mode for my liking. Wellbutrin is the only medication I've taken that actually improved my mood while allowing me to feel like myself.

Lexapro and Celexa both worked awesome for treating the combination of depression and anxiety at the same time. However, I could no longer tolerate the sexual side effects, so I am now taking Wellbutrin XL and Nortryptline. MUCH better! I convinced my doctor that anorgasmia is not a MINOR side effect!

I take Lexapro and I used to be on Zoloft. Zoloft worked for about a year for me, but so far Lexapro (10mg's) is doing the job for the most part.

dont know bout lexapro ,used celexa and had many probs ,im now on prozac topamax and lamictal though each was perscribed for diferent reasons (prozac for depresion and anxiety ,lamictalfor epilepsy and topamax for migrain prevention ) together they help controll my adhd
celexa hightent my anxiety and caused paranoied delusions ,when ridalin was used during this time for adhd it creatid some bad voodoo making me parinoied irational and hostil
i am verry skeptical of new meds but i am also court ordered to stay medicated
sad part is prior to being medicated i had no problems with parinoia or hostility
