First of all, you dont need to remove win98 at all. You can upgrade to XP or any other OS and it will automatically do everything for you. As far as the SP2 is concerned, You'd need to upgrade first to XP or another OS before worrying about Internet Explorer SP2. Win98 has been dropped from Microsoft's line of Operating Systems and will no longer provide you with updates, patches or fixes for it. Once you install XP or another OS, then go to www.microsoft.com and in the search box type in Internet Explorer SP2 and it will take you to the download which may take a while to finish downloading, it's huge and works great. Nice Question by the way, Larry

first note taht you can't uninstall windows 98 wiothout affecting other OS installed in your system.
If you don't want the win98 files, just format the particluar drive.
But the boot menu will remains displaying both OSs.
Don't format, if the boot menu installed in the Windows 98 drive.
For SP2,
Download it from windows 98 or windows 2000. MS website will not validate 98 and 2000 systems. (the website will ask for the validation, but it will succeed and you can download).
ask me if you want to know more.

There is only one way to get rid of Windows 98, and that is to format the Hard Drive. If both OS's are installed on the HD under the same partition, then both OS's have to be deleted, and all data will be lost. If you dont know how to do this, contact me thru e-mail, and we will get a IM going and ill help you out.
As for SP2 for XP. Just go here http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us and follow the steps to update your computer.

You can delete the Windows 98 folder directly and then remove the multiboot option in Windows XP by going to Control Panel--> System--->Advanced---> Startup.
If you are using a pirated version of XP, then you will not be able to validate or install SP2.

If you actually have both installed, it depends on whether or not they are in the same partion. I would hope not, I do not think they will work like that. IF they are not in the same drive, then format the one with 98 in it.
As for the service pack, go to someone's computer that does have a valid copy and dl and save the update. Burn to CD and bring home.

You have to validate Windows XP. As long as you're not using a pirated copy, it should not be a problem. You can even get a code by phone.
