Ok this is a 2 part question and a little odd. Im looking for 2 (or 1) piece of software that can do the following (and any hardware I may need to achieve this).

1. A piece of software where I can HUM or SING a tune and it will pick up the notes.

2. A piece of software (and the HW required) to plug in an electric guitar and it be able to produce the guitar tab/chord structures being played.

For number 1 (freeware would be great) but just names would be good. Bit of an odd request but why not give it a shot here.

Thanks everyone in advance, Andy

When you record your voice either singing or humming, if you can get this into a digital format i.e. a .wav file, we can then have a look at the following converter : Wave to MIDI.

The website for this software is:

http://www.musicmasterworks.com/wave_to_midi_converter.html
This will take the .wav file, i.e. your voice and convert it into MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface). MIDI is basically not the actual sound but consists of information required to make the sound using an appropriately equipped instrument. It contains note-on/note-off, length of note, aftertouch, note velocity (how hard the note is hit) but also an array of other bits that affect the character of the note (just to keep things simple)

As far as the second part is concerned, have a look at the following website:

http://home.epix.net/~joelc/midi_git.html

Basically, the pick up converts pitch to MIDI which can easily be copied into the software sequencer which should be able to show you guitar tablature.

Also, it means that you can play a synthesiser or any instrument you desire via your guitar. Imaging strumming a chord and hearing Cathedral Organ pipes coming out!!!

I hope this puts you on the right road.

I know with the Voyetra Musicwrite series of software, you're supposed to be able to play something on a keyboard (which is plugged into your computer), and it can transcribe that into sheet music. I don't know about singing though.
