"Thou shalt not eat of the tree of the knowledge between good and evil." (or something like that.)

??? God doesn't want me to know something - as if my lowly amount of knowledge could ever threaten his position of power? What gives?

What is forbidden is false and what is allowed by knowledge is the Truth. So, the Bible has forbidden to enjoy the fruit out of ignorance which will obviously lead to suffering and to enjoy the fruit of knowledge that will lead you to the Truth, your ultimate destination.

It was the tree of knowledge of good and bad. To know the difference between perfection and sin.

God said if they eat of the tree they will die. Die in that by eating the fruit of the tree, they have sinned against him. Once they sinned they were no longer perfect and could therefore not live forever.

It was a small request God had. Not much to ask when you consider what he gave them -- a paradise, freedom to roam the earth, loving companion, opportunity to fill the earth and have all other creatures (not people) in their submission. And it's not like he didn't provide other food for them. 'all other trees EXCEPT this one tree out of this whole place...'

It wasn't because God didn't want competition. Let's get real. (Not you who is asking but another answer.) Do you really think a piece of fruit would make someone as omniscient as God?

God wants obedience, even when we don't understand. I don't think the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden represented just knowledge. It represented the knowledge of good and evil. Oh the innocence that was lost when Adam and Eve realized the difference between what they were and God's holiness!

It was the tree of knowledge of good and evil. I guess he didn't want everyone to know the difference. Maybe if he had taught them the difference, Adam and Eve wouldn't have eaten the fruit. How can they know the difference between good and evil if they can't eat the fruit that lets them know the difference. Sounds like a set up to me.

It wasn't the knowledge. It was the choice to decide what is right and wrong. It is just like any parent. We decide for our children what is right and what is wrong.
The tree represented God's right to rule or make the rules for us. Not eating from the tree of the knowledge of Good and Bad was the ONLY law Adam and Eve had. They knew the penalty of eating from it...death. It was Satan the Devil who raised the doubt w/ Eve and made her question God's motives, calling him a liar and saying he was trying to keep good things from them. We can see from the conditions around us that man cannot be successful w/o God's blessing.

The knowledge spoken of pertains to knowledge of sin.....Before the fall, there was no sin. Sex was a beautiful thing. After the fall Adam and Eve understood sin and its perverseness. Sex could become if used improperly a very animalistic thing rather than a beautiful participation in the creation of a child. Sin entered the world and now we know evil and so the world is full of evil.

Well God has no objections to you having knowledge. God has no objections on anything. He allows everything to be.

But knowledge is nothing but a process in our minds. A collection of past experiences. Which keeps chattering in our heads incessantly. It is the cause of all suffering. For example you sit in a nice cozy room and yet are miserable as knowledge is operating within you, thinking of whats going to happen next to you. That's knowledge causing misery.

So no problem with knowledge. Just take it with a pinch of salt. Enjoy the cozy room by ignoring its warnings.

You draw wild conclusions my friend. Nobody said anything about challenging His power. You already know this, so why do you suggest it?

It's the knowledge of good and evil my friend. Meaning they now know the difference between good and bad. Before, they were innocent and blameless. So now they can do bad things and be held accountable for their actions. Hence punishment / hell . . .. .

God wanted to protect us from that knowledge, that awareness. It had nothing to do with threatening anybody's position of authority. But you already knew this. Calm down. Relax, don't jump to conclusions. The devil makes us prideful and pride makes us think we're more clever than we actually are. Stop worshiping yourself.

Why do you attack somebody that loves you SO much? The One who gave you life? Why do you try so hard to twist His words to make others question Him? = (

Good luck to you my friend. God loves you.

Adam ate the fruit first, gained the knowledge on how to lie, and then blamed Eve. So moral to the story beware of anything a man says or writes which Includes most religons.
