I'm visiting my parents and as I'll be here and away from my gym for 3 weeks I decided to jump rope as exercise. Problem is, never learned as a child, and I jumped too high and came down too hard a couple of times. This is a very stupid way for an adult to get a back injury. Now depending on how I move, I hurt all across the middle of my back from one side to another. I won't see my doctor until I get home, what can I do in the meantime? Will rest help? How worried should I be?

Lie down with on a bed on your back with a pillow under your knees and ice on your back, at the sites of injury. Don't have anybody bring you anything, but instead get up and get it yourself, as that will keep your back muscles from weakening and will also help it to heal faster.
In 4 days, your back should be 100% better, if it was just an overused muscle, but if the pain still persists, then you should go see a chiropractor

Wow what a way to hurt your back. First do not move so that it hurts, second try some ice and heat alternating and get some rest. If you pulled a muscle it will take a while for it to heal, if you did more than that you will need doctors advice on how to treat.

Be careful to not strain it any more, probably shouldn't be carrying heavy things. You might want a general massage just for temporary relief until you get to the doctor. Heat pads should be available at any drug store. Feel better!

Rest and sleep will help. Put ice and/or heat on it to try to ease the pain. Take Tylenol, Advil, etc. Oh yeah, and take your vitamins and eat healthy foods. Calcium in milk may help in making your back stronger. Feel better!
