Conservative estimates run at about 20,000; liberal ones run up to about 100,000. Definitely not "millions" or anything like that. More in that time died of disease than executions.
There's no way to be sure how many were killed as a result of the witch trials--in some places, they kept careful records, but in others they didn't, and informal killings without trials were also common.
http://www.gendercide.org/case_witchhunts.html mentions tens of thousands in the roughly 300 years of witch trials in Europe. (There are still people being killed for "witchcraft" today.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witch_trial estimates about 40,000, but points out that some scholars estimate as high as 100,000.
http://experts.about.com/e/w/wi/Witch_trial.htm briefly explains how three different scholars reached different answers, all within that range.

Millions and they weren't all witches. Some were Christians because they would just burn entire villages saying that God would save the Christians. Guess what? He didn't. And as far as Pagan's doing human sacrifices way back, guess what sweety. So did Christians. In fact, they still do. God told so and so to kill these people so that their sins would be forgiven. Or how about this war that is going on now that Bush started. Who asked him to get involved? No one. Bush lied. People died. People are still dying because he thinks that everyone should be Christian. How many Pagan's do you see killing people now day? None to very few. Satanists maybe do but not Pagan's. Most of the mass murders claim to be Christians. They even say they go to church. I guess you better look at your own religious killings before you blame others.

A better question is how many Christians died at the hands of pagans during the time of Christ and the years afterwards? Remember pagans used to do human sacrifice.

Well, don't be confused and get what PEOPLE did under the influence and deception of the Devil, and what God wants people to do mixed up. You can't blame "THE CHURCH". The church didn't make the decisions. The faith didn't make the decisions. Humans, with their misguided reasoning, made those decisions.
Misguided reasoning? The devil clouds our ability to see what God REALLY wants. Proof? Jesus wants us to love and not judge. Jesus would NEVER preach violence or forced conversions. The Devil deceives people into THINKING they're doing the right thing, when it's actually NOT what Jesus taught us to do. Savvy?????
That being clarified, I think many many many people were killed. A shame that the devil can deceive even "the best and most holy" of us huh?
Good luck to you my friend. I hope this helps.

Many of the numbers are propaganda - made to throw dirt at the church, specifically the Catholic church. Oh, and Millions is such a gross over-estimation, it makes my face hurt. Though there were witch trials, the ones that the Catholic Church led were not like the torch-and pitchfork trials of salem, and at the hands ot the Catholic church, women and men were almost always given quick deaths, not long, drawn out tortures. So don't generalize without allowing for exception. Remember, propaganda existed in the middle ages, too.

SweetGirl666,
In America, the Witch trials took place, and the Judge Mathers that was actually reluctant to be the judge had few cases that resulted in death, if I remember right. The source I got that from is a book entitled, "Boston".
But you seem to be angry about them. I didn't kill any witches by the way. In fact, I had a White Witch friend who taught me how to give messages. She would bring a cake on the full moon, I remember. I liked her.
