Dear Christian Sister, I used to regularly go to Bible Studies in Kansas, when I learnt a lot about the Jewish and Christian belief system. What I learnt ironically strengthened my belief in Islam. You may brush it off as Satan working on me, but the facts are simple. The Lord guides people in different ways.
My contention has been this, which no Christian has ever successfully answered. When the disciples of Christ (all twelve of them) abandoned Christ, even after learning from the great master directly, how can the Lord have any case against anyone in the World ever, if we do not listen to these twelve persons who left Christ to literally die on the cross hundreds of years later, when their lives are just stories for us.
If you have a sensitive and intelligent heart, you will see that this is a powerful question. The disciples themselves abandoned him, when soldiers do not abandon their fellow soldiers under fire, firemen do not abandon fellow firemen in a fire and many people take great risks to save even strangers time and again. These guys abandoned a good man and did not stand by him. That to me shows clearly that they either did not believe he was God as today's Christians believe so firmly or they were so shameful as to abandon God himself, even after believing he was God!! It can not be a third option.
Now how can the Mighty Lord build the salvation of all mankind on the belief in the words of such men in justice, who themselves did not believe until in THEIR words they saw Jesus appear after the crucifixion?
In my view they were simply spooked when they saw Jesus emerge, wounded but very much alive. AND there could be a very simple explanation why it happened and how it happened. In my personal view Jesus fainted on the cross (no one dies in three hours on the cross, find out the information from the internet), and he was taken down thinking he was dead. Even if the soldiers prodded him with a spear, they did not see him react, so they presumed he was dead, was taken down and given to his family. They too presumed he was dead. Remember they were in a hurry to go to the prayers, so they put him in the cave of a rich man.
Jesus recovered slowly inside the cave and had his own second "birth" so to say. He realized that he was in a burial cloth, so went and searched for clothing which he found in the gardener's cabin.
You hear all the time of people presumed dead who would recover. When he came and visited the disciples, THEN and only THEN they believed, after seeing direct evidence and presumed it was Jesus coming back from the dead! When in fact everything can be explained in simple terms of what can happen in reality.
Remember that when they crucified a person, no vital organs were damaged. Time and again people can surive even the loss of a limb or in some cases all four limbs. Crucifixion is simply a penetration in the hands and feet, although a very painful thing to do to a man.
The dread of crucifxion was in a slow lingering death, as one hung on the cross for days on end, with birds taking bites from your flesh as you were eaten alive. In many cases ants and other insects would bite you and you were helpless to react. It took a long time to die precisely because no vital organs were affected.
Everyone agrees that Jesus was taken down within three hours. The chances of his being alive even if taken down three days later are very strong, let alone in a mere three hours. The two who were crucified with him were also alive showing that one did not die so quickly. Not only were they very much alive but in high spirits. Imagine however, when the disciples who had heard Jesus was crucified saw him alive, how they were affected by his return from the "death", which was perhaps a deep faint due to loss of blood. See, how everything is logically explainable?
We people 2000 years later have none of these wonderful "miracles" that the disciples witnessed. How can the Good Lord hold us to a higher standard than the disciples themselves? If you think about it, how can you hold the students to a higher standard than the teachers?
If you understand, there is a lot of questions in my answer. If not, you would not understand and put me in the category of those "strange" people who do not believe in the "lamb" in spite of seeing the evidence.
In any case, I hope the Lord guides me where I need guidance and you where you need it, amen.

Believe it or not, it IS possible to have read the Gospels and not 'believe' that Jesus is the Messiah. I've read the whole Bible, but that doesn't mean I believe every word of it is a fact. I read the newspaper and books all the time, and I don't believe everything I read, either. It's impossible to interpret the entire Bible as FACT - it contradicts itself constantly!
The thing that makes no sense here is why do YOU think that people can't respect and admire the teachings of Jesus unless they believe he is Messiah? Maybe you should open your heart to the idea that there is more than one way to be a good person, and you don't have to be a follower of Jesus to be one.

i'm a christian but i do feel the need to respond to this so i am. i don't want to offend you or anyone else. i understand your need to be a missionary for god in what ever way you can, but tone it down a bit. you are being very presumptuous and forceful by your questions. faith isn't something that can be forced, it takes time...and faith is easily lost. it is people who are this forceful that push people away who thirst for the knowledge that the bible provides. maybe if you spoke with an open mind to an atheist you could see it from their side. most have very valid points that really do make you think. so from that side of it (i've been atheist and back) my answers to your questions would be nothing will open me up to hearing this i don't believe because there is no scientific proof and i have heard and studied the gospel and other religious books....

Heard the gospel? I've read the bible.
The bible is one of the best tools for converting people to atheism. Christians who don't actually know what it says are often surprised to find out.
The bible is only useful for making people believe in christianity if they already believe that the bible is true. Otherwise, it's just a very silly book.
What would make me believe that jesus is my lord and savior? He'd have to come down out of the sky in front of me, and he and i would have to have a long discussion. If i were satisfied with his answers, i'd believe (because, after all, just because some guy comes out of the clouds claiming to be my lord and savior, doesn't mean he actually is; it could be aliens, or a hallucination on my part, or something like that).

might I suggest that before you ask if anyone has heard of the gospels, that you take the time to read all of them not just the ones that the church decided to use.
For example the gospel of Thomas also know as the secret teaching of Jesus
the gospel of Judas(the zealot)
the gospel of Mary( the magdelin)
and they are just a few of teaching that are about Jesus that the Christain Church has banned
Fact: Jesus was married, as was common practise for Jews of that time. He had fathered a son like most good Rabbi's of that time.
He was cruxified by the Romans, and not killed by the Jews
and I can go on and on

1. I have heard the gospel.
2. Same as above.
3. Ask the Jews. They explain it better than I could.
4. If Jesus gave some sort of evidence of his existance and his outlandish claims.

Religion is a personal experience, individual to each person and they should be allowed to find thier own way without having other peoples beliefs rammed down thier throats - People have a right to not-believe in Jesus Christ and you should respect that and not arrogantly assume you have all the answers because let me tell you, as much as this will hurt your inflated ego, you dont, there are many other religions out there with many different beliefs and ALL of them have some truth in them not just the Gospel - Let people find thier own way in finding thier faith in life.

The use of "Non-Believers" is somewhat offensive and very bias-sounding to many people.
I believe in Science because the scientific evidence supports what I and most people believe.
But I love Christians, they mean well but their actions are not always good, like the entire Creationism/Intelligent Design bologne. It's obvious to everyone that it's religion disguised as science. It is very shameful and christians should be ashamed at the length they will go to to impose their beliefs on others. Just a shame.
ID/Creationism will be one for the history books.

You can't not believe in Christ. He wasn't just a religious symbol, he was an actual person. I personally dislike Christianity because their beliefs have no logical explanation, most are narrow-minded and hateful, and they are argumentative for the most part. I hate the constant attempt to convert me as well. I'm not an angry old hermit just because I'm not Christian and you people need to understand and accept that. You should also know that people are annoyed with you because you won't leave them alone, which you should because meddling with others' lives is rude unless they are interested in what you have to say. I'm not mean 'cause I'm not Christian. I'm calm, I'm kind, generous, fun, funny, and love to help others as much as possible. I already have an open mind and open heart, I just can't believe in your god. It's not possible for me. Sorry.

Absolutely nothing. To me, the bible can be just a bunch of words written by madmen who claimed to have known a man claiming to be the son of god (i.e. Jim Jones, David Koresh) Til it is PROVEN to me, I choose not to believe. However does that make me a bad person? Am I a heathen or a heretic because I simply don't believe? Would that make a Bush hater a traitor liable to be tried for treason? So until it is proven, nothing will make me believe in a god who has his representatives go out and trick poor innocent hard working people into donating money so ministers can finance their new Cadillacs and keep their mistresses happy.

I was raised Catholic and went to religion classes for years. None of it ever made any sense to me and it still doesn't. I've said before, if I can go through the most impressionable years of my life without it "sticking" then I don't think there's anything you can do to change how my mind works. I look around and none of what you describe as God is there. If he can honestly sit back and watch innocent people suffer, starving children wailing for a scrap of food, women screaming out as they are being raped, people jumping to their deaths rather than burning alive after some psychos flew a plane into a building in his name, I would not want to believe in a God as Christians describe him.
