It would harm the U.S. in many ways. It would look like a defeat since after we left the country would fall even further into a civil war until one group came out on top. It would appear that much like Vietnam most of the fighting had been for absolutely nothing, which is also bad for the U.S. government. I'm sure there are sitll people hoping to find some WMDs, I'm personall astonished they haven't fabricated any yet that would give them alot more credit for the war.

Another interesting fact is Iraq is providing Israel with much needed water.

because the Iraq leadership wants us there. If we pull out too early before Iraq military can fully defend itself then the terrorist would just take over again. Also America is not occupying Iraq, we are there in support of the Iraq government and military.

Those were goals, but not the only goals, of the operation. It is desired that Iraq have a government that can stand on its own feet and suppress the insurgents. That's still a work in progress.

they need to build up enough military strength to repel terrorist or extremist groups wanting to control iraq on their own , til then we have to hold out. but what is the reward for holding out? We are constantly suffering casualties everyday in iraq thats gonna effect U.S (us technically) in the long run and the world is experiencing a big spike in extremism.

Because if we pull out, the government will be taken over by another terrorist group. Kind of like how the commies won back Vietnam after we left there.
