Hmm...he seems to be heading in the right direction so far: He's making the step to go to college. Be proud of that. Have you ever considered talking to him about your experiences? That even though he is an adult now, you still love him unconditionally and you only want him to use his best judgement and common sense for his life? I wish my mother would open up to me about herself and tell me about her life when she was my age (21). She does the right thing, though: Whenever I have any problems, she listens, and sometimes she puts in a good word or two of what she would do in my situation, but she does not intervene and she lets me decide and handle my life on my own. Be there to talk with him when he needs you, and guide him a little, but let him know when it comes to his life, he's responsible for it now, and not you. Good luck!

Sounds like you have done a good job already, a little motherly advice is a good thing u want to set up a dialog more as friend then mother son, a car and cell are normal for some one his age. And most important he seems focused on going to college that show he has a braing on his shoulder. Good Luck

Leave a list of informative websites by the computer. You know, sites that have cell phone reviews, car stuff (like Edumunds.com) etc.
That way he can check on things himself without you hovering.
You're doing a great job!!!!

If you see him messing up, tell him a story about your life and let him learn from your mistakes.
