the proper time is really a matter of convenience any more but do keep in mind the respect to show others that your should be aware that there may be more than just the person you are speaking with and that your own self respect . 9:00 PM is probably a good rule of thumb remember that you show your self respect when you make calls later as well as the respect for the other party. If the person or people you call though work nights and so do you you might find it more apt to contact them later. If that party's hours are kept late. but it truly is on hour well you know your party and discuss openly the convenious of phone calls and the proper time open communication. is the answer here.

Ok... here's how I do it... no later than 10 pm, UNLESS... you know the person is gonna be up all night, or, if they have kids or babies, or if it's a school nite (as in school is tomorrow)... or if church is tomorrow. Or if it's an elderly person, don't call after 5pm - they go to sleep really early!!! Other than that - call away!
And if it's a teen, pleeeease, don't call the house before 12 pm! We are usually up all night and neeeeed sleep! Calling early will just pee us off!
... Well, I hope this helps! :)
Oh, yeah! You can call all hours of the night ONLY if it's an EMERGENCY - a for real, for real emergency!!!

I'd say about 10pm. if it's someone you know pretty well. If it's just an acquaintance or someone you know casually 9pm is ok. If it's really important & I had to, past the appropriate time I usually apologize for doing so.

Globally: 9?
I'm married but no kids so people call us as late as 11:30. If we're tired or in bed we simply don't answer.
With those people that I'm not really close with or know that they have a late cut off time (like the people who call us late), I won't call after 9/9:30.

I'm with the 10:00 p.m. group.
I read somewhere once that you should never call someone before 8:00 a.m. or after 10:00 p.m.
But everyone's different, and each person may have their own preferences as to when people call them. For me, no calls before 9:00 a.m. or after 10:00 p.m., unless it's a true emergency.

people have been told not to call our house after 8pm because the children go to bed at 8.
I think it depends on the person how late is to late, but definately not after 9pm

When I was living with my parents, the cut off time was 9. Now...well, if my phone rings after 10, someone better be dead.

Depends on who you're calling. I'd say, anything after ten o'clock is inappropriate. Most people are in bed at ten, or getting ready to go to sleep, and getting startled awake by the phone is irritating. Ten o'clock.

if its a best friend or someone you know really well, i'd say 9:15, if you ring at 9:30 you're seriously pushing it. if you don't know them so well, 8:45 cut off i'd say because you don't want them disturbing any good 9:00 programmes.
