Because it takes water from a place where it useful and put it into a place where it's useless, and it can cause a number of negative consequence along the way--polluted runoff, overflow in a sewage treatment facility, to name a few. Depending on where you are, it can set the soil up for a landslide in a heavy rain--is that enough?

Water is a non renewable resource. there is only so much of it. if you look at the US, the great lakes have 18% of the worlds potable surface water. on top of that, the great Lakes region has a lot of fresh water lakes. Water is needed for drinking and irrigation and also sewage processing. Some of the worlds countries are facing water shortages. This includes not only the arid regions, but also island nations facing slight increases in sea levels which causes salinity of the ground water. Bangladesh has been facing this problem for some time now. At some point in the near future, water may be as valuable as oil. There may be not only civil conflicts about water but also skirmishes or even wars between countries over adjoining water. here in the USA, the southwest is running out of water quickly. Some of this is due to global warming, bu much is because much of the southwest and California were not much more than desert before major irrigation and water diversion projects. Arizona has been wanting a pipeline for lake Superior.water for some time now. Aside from the fact it would cost trillions to build, the Great lakes states and Canadian provinces would fight it. The great Lakes contain a lot of water, but this is only replenished 1$ each year. it is not an inexhaustible supply.

Well your point is that water reamins intact even though we may flush it - it always comes back.

The issue is that freshwater has a "water table." The more it is used, the more the table lowers and the less spare capacity we have. It is sort of like a business running on low inventory - the products are coming and going but there's no reserve in case of a rush.

Also, there is the balance of fresh and salt water, which needs to be upheld.

Another reason, the water companies have to pump the water up and around, which takes electric power, which is derived from (mostly) burning fossil fuels.

it's bad to waste water because,, well what water that is her in the world may look like alot but really it's not.. it kinda like fish,, lots there but keep fishing them theres going to be not very many left.... Even though we have rain etc,, it all comes from the waters that we have anyways,, and each time it rains we are losing water because we are not getting back all the water it took to make it rain.... And unfortunately we don't have enough rain to fill in more lakes and ponds.. This is were our water comes from..... Hope this helps you.... Wasting water ,, may leave us all with nothing.....

There is tons of water around but onyl a very small amount of it is drinkable. Also, it takes money, energy and work to make sure the water we drink is safe and to get it from where it is to where we want it. So by wasting water, you are also wasting energy and money.

Usually wasting water wouldn't be bad because in a sense it is a renewable source due to the water cycle. (It rains on a mountain, a river forms, that leads to the ocean, the sun evaporates the water, the water condenses into clouds and the clouds pick up to much evaporated water it starts to rain and falls all over the place including mountains.)

Yet we use water to clean things, to flush poo down the toilet, to drink, to cook, water the garden,.......sometimes that water is used up (like in human bodies, or food for a plant) and cannot be recycled again, cause it is gone. Or other times the water becomes dirty and polluted and then no one can use it. You cannot drink it, you get sick (diarreah, fever, etc...) you cannot swim in it (bacteria), organisms in bodies of water get poisoned then we cannot eat them because they are poisoned or because they died in the water and began to slowly rot and still retain the poison quality. Yes there are water treatments to remove any wastes in the water so it can be re used (so pretty much water you use to flush a toilet becomes water you use to drink or wash your clothes) but there are some things like oil (bacon grease, some people remove it and instead of throwing it in the grass they pour it down the sink) it attaches to water so easily and the bond of grease and water is so strong you cannot break it or clean it away so it ends up mixed up with your water.

Also there are still other countries who do not have clean water and using it all up with showers that last more than fifteen minutes or a regular sprinkling of the yard is selfish when more when:

Dehydration caused by diarrhoea is one of the biggest single killers of children in the modern world and diarrhoea itself is one of the major causes of nutritional loss and poor growth.

This year, about 2.2 million children will die of dehydration caused by diarrhoea - 80% of them in the first two years of their life."

So we better watch how we use up many of our resources because when the day comes when the only amount of water left on the earth is just 2 liters of water all hell will break lose on who will have it and how it will be wasted.

If you waste water, the time when there is no water, you'll regret wasting water. So its bad.

Many reasons.
For one, the aquifers that provide our water are drying up and are becoming more scarce. For another, the effects of global warming are making potable water (look it up!) more difficult to obtain. Just look at the poverty stricken areas of the world...90% of their problems can be resolved by providing clean, safe water for drinking, bathing and cooking.
It's a limited resource, man!
