I will say one thing.
Jesus never even stayed in the tomb for the 3 days and 3 nights.
Don't believe me? Look it up in your Gospels.
Matt. 27:45-28:6
• Day1: darkness over the whole land (12:00-15:00); just after 15:00 jesus died. [mat 27:45-46]. joseph of arimathea claims jesus' body and places it in a tomb (evening; before sunset) [mat 27:57-60]
• Nght 1: jesus dead and in tomb.
• Day 2: jesus dead and in tomb; priests and pharisees ask pilate for men to guard the tomb. [mat 27:62-66]
• Night 2: jesus dead and in tomb. guards presumably on duty.
• Day 3: jesus alive and not in tomb. two marys arrive at empty tomb at daybreak. [mat 28:1-6]
By my reckoning, the bible suggests jesus was dead for about 39 hours:
On friday, he was dead for 9 hours (15:00 until midnight)
On saturday, he was dead the whole time (24 hours)
On sunday, he was already alive at daybreak.
Be good.

I think the particular days of the week don't matter. I have a friend who claims to be Christian but refuses to celebrate the birth of Christ because her religion insists it didn't occur in December, as most Christians celebrate. My argument is that what does the particular day matter? Jesus Christ was born, lived and died leaving a great legacy. Shouldn't his birth be celebrated by Christians regardless of the day? I feel the same way about his death. Pick a day and celebrate the gifts left to us.

sonny_gcf,
Not quite. But the important thing is that He rose from the dead. He died for the sins of the world. He made it possible for us to escape God's wrath. That's something that those that don't believe recieve, God's wrath.
The traditions of men once again fall short of the truth. Along with the Easter Bunny, the Easter Egg, the name Easter itself, were all derived from the Mystery Religion. Turning away from the falsehood of Sunrise Service is something that I take pride in, that I recognize the truth and don't have to burden myself with the lies that crowd the recognition of the Resurrection. Whom the Son sets free are free indeed!

John 2:19 Jesus states that he will destroy this temple and rebuild it in three days. He was referring to His dead the resurrection. Although He was only entombed one complete day, the two partial days are counted as a whole, therefore making him die on Friday and living on Sunday.

i say religion sucks--you have a religion that preaches family values and all--but yet jesus yelled why father--alnd all god can do was turn his back in shame---god killed those who defied him--40 days 40 nights of rain that flooded and killed those that opposed him--
jesus died on the cross---so did alot of other people--thenhe supposedly rose from the grave---he was put in a room witha rock put in front of it---someone came---moved the rock--took his body----put the rock back-- and the people that took his body --either burned it because they hated him so--or burned it---to give his body rest--or they buried it where no one can find it---
jesus crucifiction happen at a time where alot of people died and people were needing something to believe in--
jesus was a jew but yet jews hated jesus===and today jews celebrate a different holiday--in their gods name not in jesus and jesus father--more people have been killed in the name of christianity---than any religion combined---
so it silly to believe in a god or religion--that needs to practice what he preaches--before he judges my ***---and mary---a virgin until "god" made her pregnant----i say she was a slut--and jesus was a child from one of her many men-
ifsomeone like jesus was around today--he would be put in a padded cell shot full of meds and claimed a freak

I think He may have died on a Wednesday and rose on Sabbath, Saturday...exactly 3 days and nights (counting from sundown to sundown, as is done in Jewish calendars.

Have you heard of "Good Friday" during Holy Week (Easter week)? That's the reason.
