I don't know if I can help you but I will try.If you check with the funeral home that buried him they should still have a cope of his DD-214 which is a discharge paper. The toll free # for the V A is

I suggest you contact a local Veterans Service Officer, Veterans Organizations such as the VFW, Viet Nam Veterans, American Legion, DAV, Amvets usually have someone that can assist you.
And sometimes in a city building, they have a Veterans Representitive.
You can find a local VSO on the VA's web site, their link is:
Also, you may be able to get some additional information on the U.S. National Archives & Records Administration web site, their link is:
Also, one last suggestion, check with your local county clerks office. Because if your dad did what was recommended to him was to place a copy of his DD-214 on file.
If you can, I suggest you take a copy of his death certificate with you, if you don't have one, you may be able to obtain one at the county clerks office.
Good Luck

I believe there is also an archive in St. Louis. A lot of documents were destroyed by fire, but not all. You can send a request on line to them, if you know the SSN# and a few other facts. Good luck, and sorry to hear about your dad.

Have you asked your aunt? Or your mom. I would start there. I am not sure what info you would be allowed access to being a minor.
Maye his family would welcome you, if you opend that door.
I know it is hard, but you will never know if you don't try.
