Try a chlorohexamine solution or another ear disinfectant solution... Ears aren't going to smell like roses all of the time, but the shouldn't smell right after they are cleaned... if the problem persists past two cleanings with a comercial product spaced 3 days apart, you might want to see your vet...
Also, avoid anything labled treatment for ear mites... dogs rarely get mite infections in the ear (it's not impossible, just rare...) and they tend to irritate the ears much more than a normal cleaner...

If the dogs ears smell it's most likely an ear infection. You should take him back to the vet to get it looked at again, maybe they need to put him on a higher dose of medication. You have to be careful with him scratching his ears too, he could get Hematoma's that way and those are uncomfortable for the dog and make the ear unattractive. We have a hound mix that has constant ear issues and we may have to put her under for a deep ear cleaning because it doesn't seem like anything is helping.

You shouldn't use a cotton swab on your puppy's ears. Use a cotton ball instead.
It could be ear mites that are causing the smell. Was the cotton swab really dirty-looking when you cleaned his ear? That could mean ear mites. Use a cotton ball and clean the ear with olive oil. That suffocates the ear mites.

You really cant clean puppy ears because you cant get water in the ears of a dog. The reason for this is because it will cause ear infections for the dog. So there is really not a way for you to clean the ears. I know this because I used to have a dog and I had the same problem. So I took my dog to the vet and that is what he told me.

Could clean them out with a mixture they have at a pet store. If that doesn't help it may be a sign of an ear infection and that the dog will need antibiotic ear drops from a vet.

It could be an ear infection. A bad odor is usually caused from infection. Call your Vet. The pup will need prescription drugs to overcome this. They cannot get better on their own.
Some breeds of dogs are more prone to ear infections than others.

My dog's ear's smelled, and it was because he kept getting water in them, so if your dog is getting water in his/her ear's keep them out of the water for a little while and see if it get's better. If it's bad and has a yuckie yellow color, then take it to the vet, and have them clean them and look at it, it might be an ear infection.

It sounds like your dog may have ear mites. Make a vet appointment to have the checked out. Is your dog scratching at them frequently? You can try to clean them with peroxide and Q-tips - that is what I do for my dogs.

Take your pup to the vet. It could be from an ear infection or a yeast infection. Either of which needs to be seen and treated for you pup's happiness.
