If you are playing a standard tuned 6-string gutiar, then they are (from thickest to thinnest) EADGBE. If you are playing a 7-string then the Thickest is a B followed by the same strings. Each fret moves up one half a step so it's like this:
E string
open-E
1st fret- F
2nd fret-F#/Gflat
3rd fret- G
4th fret G#/Aflat
5th fret - A
This should help you get started. The fifth fret is the same notes as the next string on all strings except for the G in which it will be the 4th fret. That allows you to have the B. Use those frets to keep your guitar in tune! If you have other questions, feel free to contact me.

The below site has all of the notes on the fretboard - though you may or may not need them depending on your playing style. Some folks play superbly without knowing how to read notes. Above all, have fun with the guitar! Good luck.

A6stringjedi just got you started on what is termed the Chromatic Scale. Once you've memorized the diatonic scale, you can take each string on the guitar and advance, fret-by-fret, through the scale, thus giving you the names of notes in each fret.

Only through repetition will it come.

Sweetheart... you need a guitar teacher.

You're not going to learn a damned thing about playing the guitar by asking questions on this bogus Yahoo Answers thing.

Go find a teacher.... Or at least find a high school guitar club you can join for free.
