Simple if it's a screw top, you just unscrew it. With crown caps I use the inside of my belt buckle to do it, but the sort of buckle I use has a lip inside that is perfect for the job. You can put the corrugated edge of the bottle on a solid surface, like a table, and sharply slap the cap downwards with your other hand. There are as many methods out there as there ae situations where you may need to open a bottle

Slip the bottle cap under the edge of the bathroom counter. Has worked for me in a pinch! Or, you can just call housekeeping and ask them to bring you a bottle opener . . .

there are some beer bottles that you can just twist to open (with the help of a rug or cloth)
if you have a key, a spoon, or a metallic object that's flat and pointy, you can slowly open the bottle, holding the bottle on its neck and slowly apply pressure to the sides of the bottlecap using the metallic object that you have.

Keychains work for me. Whenever I grab a guinness, there never seems to be a stupid opener around. If the keychain doesn't work or isn't big enough, combine a knife as well and stick it in the keyring and use it as a bottle opener. Just be VERY careful. If you were to hurt yourself with my technique I would be sad =(

find a sturdy edge on something (like the edge of a table, air conditioner, etc.).
holding the bottle in one hand, position the bottle so that just the cap is hooked onto the top of the ledge and the rest of the bottle is below it.
with your other hand, give the top of the bottle (aim for the edge of the cap not over the table) a good whack.

find a hard, flat surface that wouldnt matter if it was harmed. place the bottle cap next to it, with the edge of the cap on the surface. tilt the bottle, and with a smack of the fist, the cap should come off. it works well with a little practice, and looks cool.

Whew, that's bad luck. You could try using a spoon. If you have a Swiss army knife, there should be a tool on there to use.
Or, you could call room service. :-) Good luck and hope your ale doesn't get too warm.
