Well, last year she quit on her own for nearly a year. She isn't using as much, but she is worried it will get out of control again.

What are the long term effects and is it inevitable that people find out?

Maybe, maybe not. It depends on her level of addiction. I had a problem with pain pills and muscle relaxers mixed with alcohol. I stopped on my own with out help. I was lucky, some may not be so lucky. If she is your friend, all you can do is be there for her. No lectures or I told you so's. That won't help. Give her your shoulder and your prayers. That is being a good friend. :)

pain killerse are highly addictive. Drugs like viccodin, oxycontin, percocet, and valium are very addictive. If your friend has been using for YEARS and is willing to hide it from everyone, do you think she can gquit without seeking help? i dont. If she is willign to hide it and change her life around her habit, she is continuing it. However, she is physically addicted. This is a problem that must be dealt with professionally. There are people who will help her and don't want to judge her or get her in trouble. You need to help her, point her to the right place! Don't let her choose drugs over a life of happiness

She should seek professional help. She will have to detox. It will not be fun for her or will it be easy. Have a family member that has been there. She must want to get off of them, and she very well may, until she starts off of them. Help her all you can.

Honey it sounds like there isn't much you can do unless you can convince her she needs help. If she is in denial, there isn't much you can do. She has to want help before she can seek it.God Bless you for your concern You could pray for her that she will want to get the help that she so badly needs.
