My girlfriend just got engaged and she told me that her ring is a cubic circonium. She told me it's quite common and these days you can't tell it apart from the real thing. Do any of you have a CZ engagement ring?

I didn't say anything b/c I'm happy for her ... just wondering how often this happens.

Unless someone says something or you are a professional jeweler, you cannot tell a CZ from a real diamond. If she is happy with her ring, let it be. Maybe they want to use the money that they are saving on the ring to get a house (a more important purchase than a ring) or to help pay for their wedding, if they are the ones paying for it. The ring can always be replaced later in the marriage. If she is happy, then be happy for her.

No, I didn't want an engagement ring at all, but if I got a CZ that would be fine with me too - as long as it wasnt played off as a diamond.

i got a diamond ring, but even if i didn't get one at all i would be happy cuz i got my man. I would only care if he tried to play a cz off as a diamond.

Chances are, her groom to be doesn't have the best job, in that case, as long as he put some effort into getting it, and didn't just get it from the local pawn shop.

On the other hand, some guys are just cheap.

I believe the rule of thumb is to spend 2 months salary on the engagement ring. So unless he's a burger king cashier, she may have gotten shorted.

Not to sound shallow...but if he loves you enought to suprise you when he pops the question...he should do it with a diamond. In this case the size doesn't matter! Be happy with what you get. I have been married for 10 years and my husband popped the question with a CZ but ONLY because we were scuba diving!

i still choose diamond... i think zirconium costs less from diamond...
my husband tried to buy me a ring with diamonds and green gems on it, but that would take a few days to get them in california, so he bought me a diamond ring here in the philippines... you can also look for rings with her birthstone on it... or a combination of both...
