No, i don't believe there is a relation between the two other than for inherited brain (physical) deficiencies.

but there are some families that are generally uneducated and with little to no common sense. how they survive amazes me.

both my parents didn't finish high school. I go to Johns Hopkins University and have done quite well for myself. They are both bright but they never applied themselves in school. Careers - Dad owned his own boat building business and Mom manages an estate. Not too bad.

Intelligence is based on surroundings. If your parents took an interest in your education then you would be smarter than any kid who's parents didn't care about them or try to teach them something. My mom works with retarded people and she explained to me that each one of these people have an intelligence level that is different then normal people but they just have a harder time comprehending things. It does not mean that they cannot learn new things like shapes, colors, how to add or subtract. They just need more time.

Heredity has nothing to do with it. Out of 5 kids, 2 of us graduated (I'm one). Father was an extremely wise man. Mother is a hillbilly in the truest sense of the term. All 3 of us girls have more brains than the boys. No, IMHO, heredity has nothing to do with it.

One sign of true intelligence is accepting reality and dealing with it head on; not hiding behind the ready made excuses society hands to us!

I don't think it's hereditary. I think it's more of an environment thing as opposed to genetics. Like if your parents baby you all the time, the kid isn't gonna know how to take care of himself.

i believe its not, like dumb genes being passed on to offsprings and you cant do anything about it. but parents do influence their kids a lot. what do you expect dumb parents to teach their kids? but lets say dumb parents kid was given for adoption and cared for by smart foster parents.

I believe it makes it harder for a person that comes from a family that doesn't value education and learning to be able to overcome his ignorance. But there are smart people that have very stupid children.

Intelligence is probably primarily genetic but that does not necessarily mean that a particular child's IQ will match that of his/her parent(s) and more than any other attribute will.

Dumb people do dumb things, so you may have a point.
