I have a friend in Canada, who keeps me filled in on what is going on just over the river. Supposedly their anti-hate crime laws now muzzle ministers in their own churches, speaking to their own congregations. If a minister so much as reads from the Bible that homosexuality is a sin, he can be arrested for a hate crime! Even if he is not promoting violence or hatred!

Can anybody confirm this? What would you think about such a situation?

I did a search through Google concerning this. According to several sources, it appears that many Canadian Christians are concerned that a particular bill having to do with hate speech was successfully passed, and that this might affect the freedom to preach certain ideas from the Bible. Here's a hyperlink about the story: http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2004/04/28/hatelaw040428.html

What I think about this situation is that governments should not try to censor or control religious speech.

No, I'm pretty sure that simple citation from the Bible is not condemned by the Hate Laws, but going further and encouraging others to look down on Homosexuals probably is...

So, if a pastor preaches about something of their non secular texts they're commonly charged with a hate crime now??? what's going to be next, in case you tell someone they do something incorrect, then that's judgmental and meaning it is hate???? So, does that recommend that if a pastor preaches adversarial to issues that are incorrect, they're commonly charged with hate crimes? what's going to be next? Judges in court will be incorrect for telling someone they did something incorrect and we'd want to continually merely enable human beings do inspite of they prefer, even no matter if it truly is risky? wager what Christians, they're prevailing at making us seem as if we are the undesirable men.

as a homosexual i have to say. i agree with you guys they shouldnt be trying to censor the church thats taking away the churches freedom of speech to condemn us. they have that right.
of course none of us know if heaven or hell actually exists and if homosexuals are actually going to hell since the bible could have been easily changed. he still has his right to mention that it is called a sin. you know what else is a sin thats equal to homosexuality eating shellfish.
but im not sure but wasnt it one of the apostles that condemned homosexuality not jesus or god. because if that is so we dont really know either jesus's or gods (assuming they exist) feelings on the subject

No, I haven't heard of anything like that.

Canadians, as liberal as we are perceived, still value freedom of speech - even with the extremist element on both sides of the fence.

They are probably right, why we allow minorities like this to rule our county is beyond me, but it doesn't surprise me that they would stoop to this, in fact the Bible warns of this. Many will be hated and killed in the name of Jesus and thrown in prison.
