I was just laughing when I was on the phone with my best friend, and just randomly wondered... I could sound like a total idiot asking this but oh well!

Hearty laughter is physical exercise. You work the muscles of your mid-section vigorously when you laugh. Laughter is very healthy.

Your abs are being worked while you laugh. If you're laughing really hard or for really long, the muscles will probably start to hurt, like they do when you're doing sit ups or some other abdominal excercise. If you laugh 15 minutes a day, you could lose 5 pounds every year just from that!

The pain you feel is a combination of stress on your diaphram and the surrounding muscles. When you laugh hard, it causes them to ache. This is also true if you have a long bout with hiccups. (Trust me, I know from personal experience!)

Nah, you're not an idiot!

No clue - too many muscles being used in a specific area that's not used to it?

No clue!

The diaphragm spazzes out when you laugh, and also the musles in your abdomen get a nice workout.

The abdominal muscles you use to laugh, if they aren't used much, are strained by this action. Laugh more, that's my advice! ;)
