It sounds like it is overheating. Turn off, unplug, open up, look for dust bunnies. Resist the temptation to use a vacuum cleaner, they generate static. No Dust bunnies? Keep hands out, plug in, turn on, look to see if all fans spin. If it don't spin, it is broken. All spin?
maybe you have a virus.

either a virus or overheating because mine did the same thing and it was because the heatsink on my northbridge chipset was broke and it would have cost me $300 to fix so I just bought a new comp. OR it could be a virus but I highly doubt that I bet it is the heat. Even though the heatsink was attached to my chip It still overheated.

1.download hijackthis
http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip
2.After you extract the zip folder, open hijackthis and press "do a system scan and save to a log file"

then go to a site like
http://forums.techguy.org/

and post the same question you have here along with your log file (in the area that is your operating system) and someone will check for any bad stuff

here is a example of someone else
