Probably about 3 years old and maybe as old as 6, but most scholars seem to feel its aobut 3. The "wise men" are believed to have been astrologers in the king's court and in those times it wasn't uncommon for them to go from city to city and country to country essentially telling people's fortunes based upon the stars. They could have come from anywhere in the Middle East.
