My sister and my young nieces & nephews have just lost their beloved pet cat. It was killed by a wild animal.

What are your suggestions on how I can let my young nieces & nephews know how sorry I am, and that I'm thinking of them?

you can give them a card if they're old enough to read/understand the concept of it.you can have their fav.picture of the pet "blown-up"&framed for them.you may even try to have a memorial type service for the pet.or maybe even make a hand-made stone/marker for the pet.my family&i did that later one when my beloved COCOA was hit by a car in front of our home.i hope these suggestions help your relatives.my sincere condolences to them..i know how they feel.i am sooo sorry to hear of this happening to them all.good luck on what ever you choose.

Just be a good listener. Society sometimes takes an attitude about pet loss (especially if people are upset about it).

Be a person who can listen to them and understand how important the cat was in their lives. Your sister and her children have had a terrible shock because of this tragic death. Respect their deep feelings of loss. You don't have to say a lot just let them know they can talk to you about it.

A card is a nice idea. I have also found that the best cure for kids when they lose a pet is a new pet. Maybe talk to your sister about an offer to take her kids to pick out a new pet.

You know, sometimes I wonder why a lot of times, people will respond more to the death of a cute animal compared to a human. We hear about deaths on the news all the time, usually we don't think much of it if we don't know the person, we pass a poor innocent cute little cat, dead on the side of the road, and some people just tear up, it's crazy. It's just a cat. There are millions of them, I'm not a very sympathetic person, but I thought I would share my thoughts...

most card stores have sympanthy cards for pets. even a little note to them will also work. My grandmother sent me a little note when my last cat was killed by coyotes. It meant a lot

I have seen some Pet Sympathy cards at Hallmark that you could get for them.

Maybe they can do something to memorialize the cat...like plant a tree or make a plaque for the garden.

Send them a sympathy card. In the interim call them and express your condolences.

You can get a really pretty sympathy card at Petsmart, it will let them know that you care.
