Just be honest with them

Honestly I wish there was a good answer to this question. I've been trying to figure that out for what seems like forever! I mean I guess the right way is to tell him your just not interested but I don't think there is any best or good way to turn a guy down.

Hmm... there're like tons of people who ask for advise on how to hook up, lol.
This however, is the exact opposite!
Come clean about it. I wish there was another way around it but honesty seems to be the best policy.
Consider his feelings though... let him down easy. This probably sounds ridiculous but thank him for thinking of you enough to be asked out.
That you're flattered; you're not into relationships now. If the guy's mature, he'll be able to deal with it.

Be honest, if you aren't into him tell him so. But don't be rude especially if the guy is young. Things like that could really hurt a guy, if he really liked you. Even if he doesn't show it.
Just remember that you should never go out with a guy that you pity, it will always turn out bad.

a friend of mine does this every time we're out at the bars and guys come up to hit on her, the dialogue is usually something like this:

Guy: So...can I buy you a drink?
Jamie: Are you gay?
Guy: No!!! (Usually stuttering and and confused)
Jamie: Well you're not convincing me...

It's funny to watch, but it might be a little extreme, generally a straight up "no" works well, unless you already said yes, then just make up an excuse why you can't go

Just tell him this... "Maybe some other time. I really dont have time to do anything. Ive got a lot to do." And leave it at that. If he asks "Like what?" Then more than likeley he's not the guy for you. That will just state that he is a control freak...

The best way is to just be honest let him know that you are not attracted to him are whatever it may be and let him know that you are just being honest and not trying to hurt his feelings, beleive me he will get over it.

just tell him you are not interested in the date, making some lame excuse will just lead him on to later uncomfortable situations
