I am engaged and I am planning my wedding. I dont have a lot of money, no father to give me away, so i want a small wedding. My dad isnt dead, he just doesnt like the guy im marrying. Anyways. Does anybody have any good ideas for flowers, cake, a place to get married, etc. I live in Los Angeles. Im really wanting a nice wedding. My budget for a wedding is under 1200 dollars. I dont think a lot of people will come either. No ones happy about me getting married.......but that's besides the point. I am really excited about getting married. Should I do the whole Vegas thing or should I do something nice. Any ideas about planning my wedding is helpful. Thanks.

I say you should look into a court wedding, have a nice sized reception and call it a day.
* You can get married in a nice dress (you can even find some very nice prom type dress that will work for about 100 bucks or less) or a pantsuit,
* have the reception at a local community center (about 25 bucks an hour),
* dont serve alcohol
* have the reception during the day and just serve brunch (finger foods)
* Use places such as Oriental Trading company for party favors/decorations
* Flowers- check with your local florist to see what is in season and the cheapest at that time- most florists can get flowers very cheap if you have no true preference
* get one or two sheet cakes (depending on the amount of guests). The main cake for you and your hubby can be a bit more special, but make it a small circle cake.
* ring- try the pawn shop or use CZ until you can get it replaced with a real diamond. Most CZ rings you cant tell are not real unless you are told.
* music- use a dj. I have heard if you get the rookie djs, the company would give you a discount because they are in training.
You did say that there wouldnt be many people who will come- i say that is just fine. The only people that matters who should show up at the wedding is the bride and groom anyways, so if no one will come, I say, get married, and spend the rest of the money on a truly nice honeymoon.
Hope this helps! Congratulations!

I'm not going to address the budget as you can have a wonderful wedding with some work.
What I'm concerned about is your choice.
Why doesn't Dad like the man? Why are the others not excited for you? Are you in love with love; caught up in the idea of a wedding, not thinking about what is in store? What a "marriage" really is?
These people are seeing something from this man that you are closing your eyes to, for whatever reason. Before you say "I Do", I suggest you take a step back and look at your relationship as tho' it belonged to someone else. See if it's really the relationship you think it is and if he is worth alienating your family & friends for; the one you want to spend your life with.

It is up to you. LA is an expensive city, but you could easily do it on that. Let's say you have 20 people, a simple dress, your reception as a dinner at a restaurant nearby (ask for a big table in the back), and email invites. For flowers you could go to a fresh flower market and get whatever they have that is pretty. It sounds horrible, but Wal-Mart makes the best cakes, and they are cheap. Keeping it simple, it could be done.
However, Vegas could also work. Get a fabulous room and a nice dress and make it a special day with just you two and no drama. You could still have your flowers and cake, just no one to ruin it for you. Plus, lots of people get married in Vegas for cheap, so this is a great opportunity.
Whatever you choose to do, good luck!

Well, I don't have much experience in this department but to me..a Vegas wedding is sort of romantic. It's just the two of you and maybe a couple of friends. You could just go out to Vegas and get married. Not in some cheesy ceremony either, I'm sure there's got to be somewhere classy that you could go. You could research it on the net. Kelly Ripa and her hubby went Vegas style and they are far from cheap or trashy. You could use the extra money to go somewhere nice for your honeymoon. What do you think?

If you go to church, some churches let you use them for free, including the community hall where you can have your reception. This way you can keep it small. Also, for flowers just get each woman in the wedding party a couple of nice flowers and tie them with a bow, instead of a huge bouqet that would kill your budget fast. Get your photographer from the local college - go to the art dept and find out what the names of students are that are taking photography and are in their last year. One of them might make a deal with you so that they get a start and you get a photographer. Go to a small bakery and get a nice cake, buy your topper from somewhere like Michaels Arts and crafts. DJ's or Band, go to the local college, dept of music get names of students who have a band of sorts. See what you can work out there as well. Good Luck (Also for your dress, have it made - mine only cost $200 for material and to be made rather than several thousand that my sister-in-law paid for hers off the rack).

when my mother in law got married for the second time she was on abudget as well and she had a great wedding we found a dress at a resale shop for 200 dollars and we maid her flowers that we got at walmart and her center peices where candels that her daughter maid you can find how to make candels by going to a candel web sight she got married outside at a park by the justice of peace and then had a reception where her family brought in the food one maid muscacholli and another brought in ham etc. if you feel that you won't have a lot of people show for the wedding you may even want to get it catered here in missouri kfc does catering so you might want call around to diffrent places that you and your hubby to be like and see how much they charge for catering and think of having at a park where you can rent a pavillain for cheep keep it local so more people may come cause it is closer to home GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATULATIONS
